Possibly, these results suggest that the image of a scrambled face may be preferred as a neutral control condition instead of the photograph of another person when manipulating self-focused attention.</div><div></div><div></div><div>In conclusion, our main results demonstrate the existence of a link between ED symptoms and responses to the manipulation of self-focused attention. For subjects presenting with a higher level of ED symptoms, attention to the self is proposed to enhance the perception of exteroceptive signals. This is in line with arguments present in the previous literature that EDs are characterized by an over-investment on perceptual information coming from the outer world (exteroception) coupled with a blunted perception of bodily information coming from within the body (interoception69,70,71,72). Therefore, in subjects with high ED symptoms, self-focused attention is thought to exacerbate this dispositional perceptive style leading to a greater shift of attention from internal to external bodily information. Accordingly, self-focused attention may lead to better performances in tasks where subjects with high ED symptoms are required to elaborate exteroceptive information and worse performances in tasks assessing interoception.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Further research will be therefore needed to test the replicability of current findings, and the validity of the hypotheses formulated in discussing these results. Future research may benefit also from the use of eye-tracking methods to investigate differences between Low vs. High ED participants in visually inspecting photographs. Although gaze direction was minimized using a chin-rest that discouraged participants from moving their head, it is still possible that differences in SSDT performance may be due to differences in visual observation of the faces and/or LED. The design may also be implemented by the use of different familiar/unfamiliar visual stimuli, other than photographs and bodily related images to investigate specificity of results. Moreover, it should be noted that the study sampled a population of healthy subjects with different levels of ED symptoms. Although this choice allows to control for the presence of confounding variables that characterize research in clinical samples (i.e., cognitive and perceptual impairments secondary to abnormal Body Mass Index (BMI), starvation, or medication treatment), it would be worthwhile to investigate whether results of this study could be generalized to a clinical populations of ED patients.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Lastly, it is worth noticing that in this study high ED participants were also found to report a higher BMI. This is consistent with some studies that showed higher BMI levels to be predictive of future onset of an ED78. However, other studies failed to replicate these results by showing no influences or even an inverse relationship between BMI and ED risk79,80. The role of the BMI in predicting ED onset as well as its influence on perceptual processes should be therefore further investigated.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Nowadays the use of air and gas as a circulating medium for drilling oil and gas wells is becoming an attractive practice because of its great advantage over conventional mud drilling. However, the occurrence of some troubles due to poor carrying capacity of cuttings in air/mist drilling is not uncommon. Although there are some theoretical models for prediction of cutting migration velocity and therefore the carrying capacity of cuttings, experimental studies are also essentially important because of the complexity of actual liquid, gas and solid multiphase flow in wellbore and the uncertainty of theoretical models. In this paper, some experimental studies were performed to investigate the moving regularity and carrying capacity of cuttings in wellbore. Some comparisons between the testing results and theoretical models are also presented in the paper. It is seen that such a study is valid and effective in prediction of the migration velocity and analysis of the motion regularity of cuttings in borehole. Therefore, the required practical air injection rate to keep the necessary carrying capacity in air/mist drilling can be determined definitely.</div><div></div><div></div><div>The changes of serum IgG antibody reactivity to protein antigens of Treponema pallidum after treatment of syphilis were observed using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and Western blot. Until 9 to 12 months after treatment, it was seen that there was a loss of several antibodies and some diminution in their reactivity in primary, secondary and early latent syphilis, but no changes occurred in late latent and reinfected syphilis. In primary syphilis, there was a significant loss of two IgG antibodies to the treponemal antigens of molecular weights 68,500 and 47,000 at 11 months after treatment. According to our previous study, the treponemal antigen of molecular weight 68,500 was T. pallidum specific and appeared only in primary syphilis, and that of molecular weight 47,000 was one of the major antigens of T. pallidum. The reaction between serum IgG antibodies of 14 patients who had been treated for secondary, early latent and late latent syphilis 2 to 14 years ago and major antigens of T. pallidum was observed and any loss or decrease in reactivity was not discovered. From the results obtained, it was concluded that the observation of serum IgG antibody reactivity to protein antigens of T. pallidum is not helpful in evaluating the efficacy of treatment in secondary, early latent, late latent and reinfected syphilis. However, serum IgG antibodies to treponemal antigens of molecular weights 68,500 and 47,000 could possibly be useful in the assessment of the efficacy of treatment in primary syphilis.</div><div></div><div></div><div>The woman initially tested negative in Cambodia, then was positive in a preliminary test in Malaysia.
