If the internet is slow on your computer or laptop but works well on your phone or another device, then unnecessary background programs could be hogging your bandwidth and bogging down your internet connection. Stopping these background programs and quitting unused applications can help speed up your connection speeds.
Close unnecessary apps and programs
If unnecessary programs or background processes are hogging bandwidth, your download speeds may suffer. Close unnecessary tasks and see if that helps.
adjust the download speed to use the unused network bandwidth

You can limit the upload and download throughput to a fixed rate (the minimum rate is 50 KB/sec, and the maximum rate is 100,000 KB/sec). The lower the rate, the longer it will take your files to upload and download. Instead of limiting upload throughput to a fixed rate, you can also set it to "Adjust automatically." This setting enables the OneDrive sync client (OneDrive.exe) to upload data in the background by only consuming unused bandwidth and not interfere with other applications using the network.
Overload causes depend on the router and current network use. An old or low-quality router may produce slow speeds. Too many devices may upload and download data simultaneously, causing a network traffic jam. A faulty router causes slow speeds, too.
The primary goal of Wi-Fi 6 is to better handle network efficiency as opposed to just faster speeds. Many Wi-Fi 6 routers can easily handle dozens of connected devices, making them ideal for smart home devices.
Instance bandwidth specifications apply to both inbound and outbound traffic for the instance. For example, if an instance specifies up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth, that means it has up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth for inbound traffic, and up to 10 Gbps for outbound traffic. The network bandwidth that's available to an EC2 instance depends on several factors, as follows.
The available network bandwidth of an instance depends on the number of vCPUs that ithas. For example, an m5.8xlarge instance has 32 vCPUs and 10 Gbps networkbandwidth, and an m5.16xlarge instance has 64 vCPUs and 20 Gbps networkbandwidth. However, instances might not achieve this bandwidth; for example, if theyexceed network allowances at the instance level, such as packet per second or number oftracked connections. How much of the available bandwidth the traffic can utilize dependson the number of vCPUs and the destination. For example, an m5.16xlargeinstance has 64 vCPUs, so traffic to another instance in the Region can utilize the fullbandwidth available (20 Gbps). However, traffic to another instance in a differentRegion can utilize only 50% of the bandwidth available (10 Gbps).
Typically, instances with 16 vCPUs or fewer (size 4xlarge and smaller) aredocumented as having "up to" a specified bandwidth; for example, "up to 10 Gbps". Theseinstances have a baseline bandwidth. To meet additional demand, they can use a network I/O credit mechanism to burst beyond their baseline bandwidth. Instances can use burstbandwidth for a limited time, typically from 5 to 60 minutes, depending on the instancesize.
An instance receives the maximum number of network I/O credits at launch. If the instance exhausts its network I/O credits, it returns to its baseline bandwidth. A running instance earns network I/O credits whenever it uses less network bandwidth than its baseline bandwidth. A stopped instance does not earn network I/O credits. Instance burst is on a best effort basis, even when the instance has credits available, as burst bandwidth is a shared resource.
You can use CloudWatch metrics to monitor instance network bandwidth and the packets sent and received. You can use the network performance metrics provided by the Elastic Network Adapter (ENA) driverto monitor when traffic exceeds the network allowances that Amazon EC2 defines at the instance level.
When you pick video quality and bandwidth settings, you set the maximum video quality for your camera. Your camera will automatically adjust video resolution and compression according to how much bandwidth is available.
Slow download speeds, in spite of a fast connection, could be related to an outdated router, distance of your devices to the router, ISP throttling, or the number of people or devices connected to your network. To test the latter, disconnect all other devices on your Wi-Fi and restart your downloads.
While wireless 5G services can be quite fast for downloading, they are generally at the mercy of network availability or outages. Network providers also tend to throttle connection speeds after certain times of the day.
Conversely, your ISP may also be throttling your internet connection. This occurs when your ISP deliberately slows down your connection based on what it perceives you are doing online. Streaming services, for example, use a lot of bandwidth and ISPs will claim they are limiting your bandwidth to relieve network congestion.
Unnecessary resource-heavy background programs could be eating away at your bandwidth, causing slow download speeds. Closing unused programs individually through your device manager one by one could do the trick.
Perform an audit of all of the devices connected to your network to determine if any are hogging bandwidth. Unsurprisingly, the more devices that are connected to and using your network, the slower things will be. Devices like game consoles could be downloading large updates in the background without you realizing it.
To enable it, go to Administration => Site Configuration => Servers and Site System Roles and select your SUP. Right click on Software update point and enable Adjust the download speed to use the unused network bandwidth (Windows LEDBAT)
For help assessing your network, including bandwidth calculations and network requirements across your org's physical locations, check out the Network Planner tool, in the Teams admin center. When you provide your network details and Teams usage, the Network Planner calculates your network requirements for deploying Teams and cloud voice across your organization's physical locations.
Teams is designed to give the best audio, video, and content sharing experience regardless of your network conditions. That said, when bandwidth is insufficient, Teams prioritizes audio quality over video quality.
If you're noticing a long buffering time when trying to stream your favorite television show, you might be experiencing bandwidth throttling. This happens when your ISP purposely slows down your internet speeds by controlling your bandwidth. Unfortunately, it's still legal and very common -- despite President Joe Biden signing an executive order in 2021 to get bandwidth throttling banned.
Sometimes you may be connected to your gateway's public WiFi hotspot network (xfinitywifi) or secure hotspot network (XFINITY), which can limit your WiFi speed. Go to the WiFi settings of your device to make sure you're connected to your personal in-home WiFi network.
Older standards affect accessories like Ethernet cables and switches as well. For example, older Category 5 (Cat5) Ethernet cables have a 100 Mbps limit. Using an old Ethernet cable in your wired network can handicap the connection speeds of all devices connected through that cable. Even if you have Gigabit-speed Internet with a fast modem and router, if you connect the modem to your router with a Cat5 cable, the cable limits all connected devices to 100 Mbps.
Most NETGEAR routers feature the ability to configure various settings that can affect the speed of your connection, like quality of service (QoS) and wireless link rate. Some routers feature extra settings that allow you to restrict bandwidth to specific devices on your network. If your router uses any custom configuration, it might be affecting your connection speed. For more information, see the following articles:
If your network appears slow, try running a speed test. We recommend Speedtest by Ookla. You can download the desktop app for free on your computer or mobile device, or access it on our website. You can use it to check both your WiFi and wired connection; we recommend checking both.
T-Mobile Internet Lite speeds will vary by location, and will vary more than the unlimited 5G Home Internet Plan, but areas that show strong 5G mobile wireless coverage are more likely to see better Internet Lite speeds. Internet Lite is delivered via both our 4G LTE and 5G cellular networks and speeds vary due to factors affecting cellular networks.
Bandwidth is how much information you receive every second, while speed is how fast that information is received or downloaded. Let's compare it to filling a bathtub. If the bathtub faucet has a wide opening, more water can flow at a faster rate than if the pipe was narrower. Think of the water as the bandwidth and the rate at which the water flows as the speed.
If you love to stream HD videos, download large files and enjoy multiplayer gaming, you may want to consider speed plans of 100 Mbps and above. For all other activities like streaming music, surfing and video conferencing - anything above 25 Mbps should be enough. It all depends on how patient you are with potential buffering and slightly slower speeds when others at home are competing for bandwidth at the same time for their own activities.
Try to connect computers to your router or network with an Ethernet cable. Being wired directly helps with congestion on the airwaves and helps prevent bandwidth and connection issues from other devices.
With up to 4x the network bandwidth of P3.16xlarge instances, Amazon EC2 P3dn.24xlarge instances are the latest addition to the P3 family, optimized for distributed machine learning and HPC applications. These instances provide up to 100 Gbps of networking throughput, 96 custom Intel Xeon Scalable (Skylake) vCPUs, 8 NVIDIA V100 Tensor Core GPUs with 32 GiB of memory each, and 1.8 TB of local NVMe-based SSD storage. P3dn.24xlarge instances also support Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) which accelerates distributed machine learning applications that use NVIDIA Collective Communications Library (NCCL). EFA can scale to thousands of GPUs, significantly improving the throughput and scalability of deep learning training models, which leads to faster results.
