This lets you delete memos whenever you want (once you delete them they are truly gone forever), retitle memos, and go back to memos that you may have lost the links to. New free features are also being built in every day.
I'm trying to record voice memos. I've changed the RATE button to "protect" and then pressing the button a few seconds when reviewing an image, but nothing happens. According to Canon, voice memo was enabled on firmware 1.5.0 and I'm on 1.5.2. Any ideas on how to record a memo?

The R5 has always had the "memo" feature. I believe what they updated with fir 1.5.0 was its ability to record a memo while "protect" is assigned to the rate button. The R5 uses a different mic for memos, which isn't on the R6 (we have both the R5 and R6). The memo mic on the R5 is between the play button and the lower right of the LCD. I guess they could use the video mic on the R6, but I don't see that happening.
Once you have held the [RATE] button for two seconds you may start talking and the voice memo should record. I don't see it updated on the EOS R6 manual but pages 571 and 572 of the EOS R5 manual should apply exactly the same to your EOS R6. I'll link it below for you.
So i was using iPhone SE and backed up my data to my iTunes. 2 months ago i switch to iPhone XS and restore all backed up data but the voice memo still downloading and i think it's stuck. Any insight for my problem? Thank you
If the memo was stored locally it would have been restored with the backup. Most likely it was stored in iCloud. Connect your phone to Wi-Fi and connect to a charger, then toggle iCloud sync for Voice Memos and try to play this memo.
Hi, I wish to securely send 1 hour long voice memos. I set up a dropbox transfer. It appears that I could drag and drop the file in a designated folder in my dropbox folder on computer. It seemed it uploaded to dropbox. Then I got an e-mail saying I could copy a link to send it. So I did a test and sent it to myself. I received the file via e-mail and uploaded it. I saw 2 folders, one had a bunch of files in it, the other was the voice memo. I only want to send the voice memo to people. Is there a better way to do this in which only the voice memo will be sent? I am also wondering how much space a 1 hour recording may use up on dropbox.
However, now that I have deleted it from the screen, with the message prompted saying that any memo synced to the cloud would remain there, I see that the space is still taken up. I assume I have to hit "delete app" from the storage part of settings, but the warning message reads something like "doing this will delete all the data associated to this iPad. This is irreversible" (I'm translating cause my iPad is set to French). However, I am not sure if deleting the app of my iPad will definitely keep all my memos over on my iPhone, and, most importantly, on the iCloud server, because I do not want to lose everything, so I thought I would check before risking to make a big mistake.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We see you have some questions about your Voice Memos, and we'd like to help. When you delete the application, the memos should still be saved where you backed them up, as you can restore from that backup at a later date. The following link can walk through how to delete Voice Memos: Edit or delete a recording in Voice Memos on iPhone - Apple Support
It looks like there is confusion here between the Voice memos app and the Voice Memos app data(the actual recordings). When you delete apps from one device, it will never be deleted from another device. With that being said, deleting the Voice Memos app from your iPad will not delete it from your other Apple devices.
That means, if you would like to remove your voice memo recordings from your iPad, and keep them on all other devices, you'll have to turn off iCloud for Voice Memo on your iPad. This way deleting them off your iPad won't delete them from your other devices. (iCloud keeps all devices in sync)
Alright, that's good to know but it's still not what I'm asking: will deleting the voice memo app from my iPad delete the memos from the cloud, or will I be able to keep the memos on the cloud and syncing with my phone?
Well, I shouldn't say "deleted" since you can't, but my wife gave me her iPhone 6 after I bought her a 7. I was cleaning up the apps that I wasn't going to want and I got rid of the voice memos icon without realizing she had some in there. I got it back but all of the memos are gone.
She's connected this iphone to our mac multiple times; I read that itunes will sync voice memos but I'm not seeing them under music like they should be, i'm assuming they're gone? does our mac make automatic full backups whenever she connects? i could just run a backup from a previous day if it keeps multiple backups, if it doesn't then i'm screwed right?
iTunes will sync voice memos and place them under Music but whether it does this automatically or not depends on your Preferences. Look under Preferences > Devices. Regarding backups, look in the same place and you should see the backups that iTunes has made from your all your devices. Those would be the only ones available. You can archive some backups. If you don't see the backups you want there, I am afraid they are gone. Sorry.
It is my understanding that Voice Memos (when flagged it do so in iCloud) will backup when your phone is connected to power, Wi-Fi and with the screen locked. To this end, I purchased extra cloud storage because I use my Voice Memos every day to record my thoughts, musical ideas, etc and it's up around 33 GB right now! The other day I found a memo that I wanted to revisit and work on, but it wouldn't play. I edited the file to be 1 second shorter and the whole thing is gone now! The file is still there, but the waveform has vanished! If I could find the previous file on a backup, I could restore it, but I can't find them anywhere... It's probably too late and tough luck, but I don't understand why EVERYTHING has to be so effing hard to get back from a backup!
So I've exported a bunch of Voice Memos from Apple's Voice Memo app but the resulting AAC m4a files contain only the memo's name ported to the Filename and Title meta and the date of recording of the voice memo is only visible in the Recording Date meta, while the Creation Date meta is the date I exported the memo.
Hi everyone, I ran into the same problem with Apples Voice memos - indeed quite annoying that on export the file creation and modified date is actually the time when the export took place. I tried out above method with the batch script and then creating a custom label in mp3tag, though this still does not show in a standard windows system window. So, after first checking the Tags in exiftool -g -k (g stands for group headings, basically showing the type of tag and -k keeps exiftool command window open after execution) , then following the first example for file renaming on the and checking TAGS naming in the reference pdf , I came up with the following : exiftool "-FILE:FileCreateDate
Yes. First you have to get the audio out of Voice Memos. Unfortunately, Voice Memos does not appear to support saving directly to Camera Roll (as a video clip with a poster frame for the video component, like other voice recorders I tested...) or to your audio library.
Pictures with voice memos are indicated by icons during playback. To play a memo, select the picture and press the center of the front command dial; a progress bar will be displayed while the memo plays back. Volume can be adjusted by pressing MENU/OK to pause playback and then pressing the selector up or down to adjust the volume. Press MENU/OK again to resume playback. Volume can also be adjusted using SOUND SETTING > PLAYBACK VOLUME.
I am trying to figure out the best way to capture quick voice memos that I can send to the Reminders app as tasks. It seems that Reminders is integrated with just about all of Apples other apps like email, notes, etc. but not voice memos.
    2. This will create a new email on your device, with the voice memo already attached. Fill in the email address you would like to send the memo to in the "To:" line. One easy way to make the memo available on multiple devices is to simply email it to yourself.
    4. Under that dropdown, a folder labeled "GarageBand File Transfer" will appear. Tap that to save the voice memo. Then tap "Add" on the upper right hand corner of your screen. The voice memo will now appear in the folder of the same name in the GarageBand app when you open it.
If you mean that your icon for the voice memo app is in a folder and you want it out on its own then just put your finger on the icon until it starts to wiggle (all of the apps will) an drag it out of the folder and on to the screen you want it on. If you're trying to put a single voice memo on the home screen, you can't.
