I have heard various stories from different people regarding examiners at the carriage office resigning because of differences with Transport of London upper management. I wonder if they are diluting the knowledge from within and appointing examiners who have little or no knowledge of what the London cabbie is all about.</div><div></div><div>It so important that an experience London cab driver is only able to become an examiner because he or she knows what is required. If they appoint these jobs to people who have not been London cabbies, people from different walks of life , that would be disasterous.</div><div></div><div></div><div>As a very proud London cabbie who drives a new TX4, black, with no advertising at all, and it will always stay that way. On a regular basis I am told by many tourist, how they love sitting in the back of an iconic London cab, being driven by a Londoner with good humour and good knowledge of London history. Travis complains about how dirty NewYork is and talks about how he does not discriminate against hispassengers. We see him driving around on a typical day. When hegets off work in the morning after driving for twelve hours at night,he immediately begins drinking and attends a porn film. At the entrancehe tries to be friendly with the concession lady, a young blackwoman. She quickly rejects his efforts to reach out, so he spendshis morning alone in the porn theater. Travis complains about hisinability to sleep, even after working all night, and talks aboutwanting to become more normal. He wishes to have someplace to goand to fit in with other people. Travis hangs out with other cabbiessometimes at an all-night diner. He is clearly made uncomfortableby Charlie T, a black cab driver, and by the other black peoplein the diner.</div><div></div><div></div><div>The next scene shows Travis, back in his cab, pullingover to let a man out. But the unnamed passenger wants to stay inthe cab to watch the silhouette of a woman in a window above. Thepassenger claims the woman is his wife and that she is sleepingwith a black man. He goes on hysterically about shooting his wifewith a .44 Magnum. Later, at the diner wherethe cabbies hang out, Travis pulls Wizard aside and tries to reachout to him, saying he's been feeling down and having bad ideas inhis head. The only thing Wizard can tell him is that he is stuckas a taxi driver, that the job will become him. Travis seems tobe losing his mind more and more. One day he absentmindedly runshis cab into a young prostitute, the same one who jumped into hiscab before.</div><div></div><div></div><div>The film moves forward by a few months. Travis has becomea hero of sorts for saving Iris. We hear Iris's father reading aletter he has written Travis, thanking him for sending Iris home.The camera pans across all the newspaper articles that label Travisa hero. In the final scene, which is most likely a fantasy, we seeTravis standing around with his cabbie friends when Betsy gets intohis cab. She is clearly impressed by Travis's recent success andsays she'll see him around. Travis never looks back at her but staresat her reflection in his rearview mirror.</div><div></div><div></div><div>The cabbie said he had heard Xxxxxxx Xxxxx had been involved in some made-to-order insurance robberies. The owners of the houses agreed with Xxxxx that burglaries would take place and specific very valuable insured items would be taken. After the robberies, the owners would be given back the main items; the burglars would keep some relatively unimportant minor items; and Xxxxx would split the insurance money with the owners.
