From Newsgroup: comp.lang.awk
Hello all.
Old-timers may remember that Mortice Kern Systems (MKS) sold Unix tools
for non-Unix systems, like MS-DOS and others. They had a version of
awk, which made its way into Solaris as the POSIX compatible version
in /usr/xpg4/bin/awk.
The code was released with OpenSolaris and lives on in Illumos. It's
small, about 7,000 LOC altogether. It supports multibyte character sets.
I spent a few hours to make it compile on Linux. It should also compile
OK on macOS and other POSIX compliant systems but I haven't tested this.
It's available from
https://github.com/arnoldrobbins/mksawk.
A contributed CMakeLists.txt file is included for people who prefer
CMake over make.
Other than a simple "hello, world" smoke test, I haven't done anything
with it, nor do I plan to invest any more time in it.
Enjoy, or not.
Arnold
