What about it? Generally Big8 groups such as those in comp.* are
preferred over the alt.* groups when they cover the same topic.
But if if the discussion is so busy in here that you just can't
keep up, nobody's going to stop you using that group instead. :)

I'm not sure I've ever heard about or visited alt.gopher before, I'm now looking at it via newsgrouper.org. Seems to have some relevant posts
before 2000, and then a barrage of (Google Groups, most certainly) SPAM.

So it's at least a group for Internet Gopher, judging by the less recent
posts? Or was it created with something else in mind? I can't get a
group description in newsgrouper.org or from eternal-september.

Unless there are users following only the alt.* group, I'd suggest
focusing on comp.infosystems.gopher. Sending a copy of this message to alt.gopher just in case.

(There's also the gopher mailing list, for those who prefer e-mail, https://lists.debian.org/gopher-project/ )

case somebody who doesn't yet comes across this thread.)
