I have forked Henry Spencer's regular expression library (the one used in Tcl):

It's tweaked for the needs of a text editor (namely SciTECO) and could potentially be useful for other editor projects as well.

PS: SciTECO has its own pattern language derived from TECO, but patterns
are internally translated to regular expressions.
