• Ingres 11.x to Actian X

    Just wondering out loud...

If I have an Ingres 11.x installation on a Windows server, is it
feasible to install Actian X over it in the same way I would install an
    Ingres upgrade?

I am not expecting the Ingres tables to magically become vector
    tables.

    Hi Roy

I thought Ingres 11.x and Actian X were one and the same thing and figured the only reason my installation didn't have an X100 engine was because it's running on SPARC. However, checking Actian's ESD page I see they are distinct offerings.

I would think it would be feasible, however by its very nature the X100 engine requires a lot of memory, but can be configured not to start up, if that's an option, I believe.

I note the Ingres documentation states "Incremental rollforward is not supported for a database that includes X100 tables."

This was a timely post. Yesterday I found myself explaining the difference between Ingres 11 and Actian X to my manager.
