Sir Elton John said he liked Melbourne's trams so much during a visit to the city he bought one and had it shipped back to England. The star listed it as his most outlandish purchase in a lifetime of excess that has seen him blow millions on classic cars, outrageous clothes and expensive works of art.
He told Britain's "Uncut" magazine: "I saw this tram in Melbourne and I thought, 'I'll have that'. It didn't cost much to ship to Southampton but getting it into my house was a f***ing nightmare."
He said the tram was now in the garden of his $40 million home in Berkshire, where neighbours include golfer Nick Faldo. Sir Elton added: "My boyfriend, David, uses it as an office."
