    In AI nitwits are useful.
    If you come across some algorithm that looks at some data and
    makes a decision but pretty much always turns out to be wrong
    you can happily just take the opposite of what it says and combine
    with algorithms that usually get things right.

    In some project for Allen AI to create a program that could pass
    a US year 12 science exam we combined several algorithms that looked
    at the words in the questions, the words in the course material,
    and the words in the answers to usually score an A on the exam.
    Oftentimes inside that program were hillbilly algorithms that
    always got the answer wrong but were therefore useful to guide the
    rest of the program to the the answers right.
