I concede that the US was good at embracing the industrial revolution
... but it still has fuck all to do with actual greatness.

The issue is how one chose to measure the *greatness* of a country.

I am sure that the robber barons of US Wild West capitalism were doing
just great. But have you ever wondered how the indigenous population
(what small fraction was left alive), what black people and in fact also
a large number of of the blown ins from Europe must have thought about
working themselves to death for very little personal benefit, if any at
all. For these people any even tiny ups and downs of the quite unstable extreme US exploitative capitalism must have felt like living hell.

There might just be a reason so many choice
    to migrate there from europe.

YAWN! Yes, the myth of the US promised lands were a great attraction for
all the misfits and adventurers of Europe.
That also explains how so many of Europe religious loon sects flooded
across the ocean creating the extremist nutjobs of the US Bible Belt.
Hey, they even took with them their dedicated witch-hunters. YAY!

Yes, it was true that European feudalism was very slow in dying. The conversion to full on capitalism in Central and Eastern Europe was quite
    slow.

Pity you are utterly unwilling and unable to appreciate why things
happened in Europe the way they did. Maybe you should follow your own
advice and read more about European history. Specially about the history
of the late 18the to early 20th Century.

If in nothing else, Hungary has proven its *great* resilience against
ruthless exploitative meddling threatening its independence and mere existence.

What Hungarian learned out of their less then stellar history is
humility that is utterly lacking amongst the septics.

You can't make me upset whatsoever by dumping shit on my country of
birth, firstly because I have become absolutely cosmopolitan and
secondly because I always have been very critical of Hungary.
So there you go, Rod, failing big time! I don't have any national pride

would point you out the countless myth/misconceptions circulating about
the over-glorified septics' role in the two world wars.
Clearly, it is very trendy these days to overestimate the US's role in
those wars for obvious political propaganda purposes.
Yes, Rod, it weren't just a single historian that came to similar
conclusions. You can't simply cherry pick those few that put the US on a golden pedestal unless you are fully biased US brownnoser yourself.
Maybe, just maybe, you should separate your dedication to the

Pearl Harbor was its own country, fuckwit

Pearl Harbour in the greater scheme of things equates to a border
skirmish when compared to how whole European countries were devastated
by the ravages of War. Pearl Harbour did more damage to the already
oversized septic ego than to the US economy/infrastructure.

have fuck all to do with any sort-a-a of greatness.

But being the reason the allies won

And the manpower provided by the USSR, eh?

I concede that the US was good at embracing the industrial revolution
... but it still has fuck all to do with actual greatness.

That was when america was very great indeed

YAWN! Your metrics for 'greatness" are completely different from mine.

We have a machinery field day every year in
Colyambally and almost all of the antique
machinery and cars and trucks are american,
something you don't see with cars anymore

That is Australia and NOT Europe! Next!

The issue is how one chose to measure the *greatness* of a country.

Dominating the world with machinery exports is certainly
part of that and they still do that with the phone system,
mobile phone technology and the internet and social media
and did that with the electrication of the world previously
    and then with commercial aviation

Electrification in Europe had fuck all to do with the US.

    For instance:

    *Birth of Electric Trains*
"The first electric train was built in 1837 by chemist Robert Davidson
in Scotland. The train was powered by a battery and could carry a small
number of passengers. This marked the beginning of the electric train era"

    *First Electric Locomotive*
"Werner von Siemens demonstrated the first electric locomotive in Berlin
in 1879. This marked a significant advancement in electric train
technology and paved the way for the development of electric railways."

    *Opening of First Electric Tramway*
"The first electric tramway opened in Lichterfelde, Germany in 1881.
This marked the beginning of electric tram systems that would soon
become popular in cities around the world."

Sorry, I won't join you in full on US brown nosing. I won't detract
anything from what was achieved in the US but also I give credits to
    where due elsewhere.

I am sure that the robber barons of US Wild West capitalism were doing
    just great.

And that did produce a very viable railway system at that time

Pity that wonder build on the sweat and blood of fully exploited
disposable labourers. And *surprise-surprise* that wonder did not last
long either. Yeah, unsurprisingly over time the US ended up with one of
the most inadequate and almost fully obsolete rail-infrastructure in the developed world. And Australia was right there with that very same
    distinction until recent times.
Yeah! the capitalism coin do have two different faces, one is
shiny-gilded and the other one is rusty and covered by shit. And while I
see both sides you desperately want to see only the shiny one!

But have you ever wondered how the indigenous population (what small
    fraction was left alive),

The poms did plenty of that too in various places
and only a fool would stupidly try to claim that
the british empire was not great at the time

I certainly was great for the gentry and merchant class. Hey, even Marx
    have not denied that!
It was an entirely different matter for the colonies and its working
poor in the coal mines, eh? Have you read anything from Charles
Dickens??? Or do you call his works as wanker crap too?

what black people and in fact also a large number of of the blown ins
from Europe must have thought about working themselves to death for
    very little personal benefit,

    That last is mindless bullshit

None the less inconvenient truth still remains the truth even if you
turn a blind eye to it. I am sure Mark Twain did not suffer from this
    very same affliction!

if any at all. For these people any even tiny ups and downs of the
quite unstable extreme US exploitative capitalism must have felt like
    living hell.

How odd that very few of them chose to return to where
they came from. In fact FAR more of ours chose to do that

Adventurers and misfits prefer a place where they can live out their
    most putrid desires.
Having said that, there were plenty who have returned back to Europe completely disillusioned by the discovery of the thinness of the gilded
veneer of US way of life society.

There might just be a reason so many choice
    to migrate there from europe.

YAWN! Yes, the myth of the US promised lands were a great attraction
for all the misfits and adventurers of Europe.

    There was no myth

    YAWN!

That also explains how so many of Europe religious loon sects flooded
across the ocean creating the extremist nutjobs of the US Bible Belt.

To excape religious persecution and pogroms in europe.

Please try to use a spell checker built into your Usenet client, or is
that request is beneath your preferred posting style?

Anyhow, there was plenty of religious nuttery going around in Europe
over the centuries of its long history, but the worst of the worst of
them all flocked to the US. And while gradually Europe has improved
itself those nuts in holy seppo-land have decided to stay in their self created dark ages.
I honestly hope you ain't going to defend here the Bible Belt insanity
like creationism/intelligent design, extreme prudery, science denialism
and their perfected Xtian fundamentalist hate towards anything that does
not fit in their crazed world views.

Hey, they even took with them their dedicated witch-hunters. YAY!

Hardly surprising that any group takes its culture with it, including
    the mafia

Hmmm. Mafia was never a religious faith.

Yes, it was true that European feudalism was very slow in dying.

And the buggers were quite literally burning each other at the
    stake until quite recent times.

What do you mean by recent times???

*A History of the Witch Trials in Europe*

    <https://localhistories.org/a-history-of-the-witch-trials-in-europe/>

*The end of the Witch Trials*

"Eventually, however, educated people gradually stopped believing in
witches and magic. In England, a woman was condemned for witchcraft in
1685, but itrCOs not certain if she was executed. In Scotland, the last execution for witchcraft was in 1727. Finally, in 1735, parliament
repealed all previous laws against witchcraft.

The new law made it illegal to pretend to cast spells or tell fortunes.
In 1775 in Bavaria, Germany, a woman was sentenced to death for
witchcraft, but she was never executed. Instead, she died in jail. The
last execution for witchcraft in Europe was in 1782. A Swiss woman named
    Anna Goeldi was beheaded.

A footnote to the witch trials: In May 1944, Helen Duncan became the
last person in Britain imprisoned under the Witchcraft Act of 1735,
which made it a crime to fraudulently claim to summon up spirits. Duncan
was a medium and she held seances above a shop on Copnor Road in
Portsmouth. She was sentenced to 9 months in prison. But the last person
to be CONVICTED under the act was another medium, Jane Rebecca Yorke. In September 1944, she was fined 5 pounds (a large sum of money at that
time). The act was repealed in 1951."

Some of the german town squares
ened up quite literally with the downwind building coated in human
fat due the witch burning frenzys

Hmmm! You do not get brownie point by over the top exaggerations.

But what has happened in Hitler's extermination camps were certainly a horrible dark point in Europe's history.

Superstition and religious extremism specially when coupled with racism
create the perfect mix to commit atrocities against humanity.

The conversion to full on capitalism in Central and Eastern Europe was
    quite slow.

That is complete bullshit with britain alone and

Ahem. Have you ever heard of the Mongols? How about the Ottomans? The Hapsburgs? How about the USSR?
They indeed did not want to immigrate to Hungary, they just simply
decided that is was a good idea to conquer it fully by military force
and the keep it for good.
Admittedly this did not always worked out as desired for the
    invader/occupier.
The most successful at it were the Hapsburgs, after all they held
Hungary more or less captive for a few centuries, right till the end of
    World War 1, eh?
    NEXT!

Unlike the US, Hungary still has not become a cultural cesspit! YAY!

Yet. It remains to be seen now that Orban has been flushed where he belongs

Even Orb|in's and his far-right/alt-right political mobs best efforts to
the contrary Hungary has remained an enlightened Central-European nation
with a rich cultural history going back over a millennium. Neither the
US nor Australia (except for their indigenous people) possess anything
like that. All they can do is producing nostalgic rants about their
    grand Anglophone heritage.

Lucky for Hungary, that despite the devastating loss of territories,
repeated economic collapses, tremendous loss of lives and civilian
infrastructure caused the ravages of wars from starting with
revolution and war of independence against the Hapsburg rule in
1848-49 until 1945 and beyond in 1956 it could survive at all, despite
Russian occupation that only ended in 1989.

It remains to be seen now that Orban has been flushed where he belongs

I really-really do not see anyone crazy enough the try to invade Hungary

Have fun listing any examples of greatness that
matters by any other country. Even inventing
the industrial revolution by Britain doesn't
really qualify given that it was america that
did the full commercialisation of almost all
    technology since, everything from computers,
aircraft, cars, credit cards, jeans, stupid shoes,
T shirts, the phone system, electricity, petrol,

Electrification in Europe had fuck all to do with the US.
But followed american invention and development
of american technology when america was great
    For instance:

"The first electric train was built in 1837 by chemist Robert Davidson > in Scotland. The train was powered by a battery and could carry a small > number of passengers. This marked the beginning of the electric train > era"
A tiny subset of the railway system
And it it was america that first fully commercialised
    the diesel electric locos
    *First Electric Locomotive*
"Werner von Siemens demonstrated the first electric locomotive in Berlin > in 1879. This marked a significant advancement in electric train > technology and paved the way for the development of electric railways."

and so was the roman empire when it was great
and so did the austro hungarian empire when
it was great, and so did communism when it
got started and then imploded completely
That's the way things were done in those days
And *surprise-surprise* that wonder did not last long either.

You are out with your mindless interpretation of commie Fairies as

Japan did not have the resources to launch an extensive mainland
campaign, meaning no major US cities were significantly damaged.
However, the Japanese military launched several direct attacks on US territories and outlying areas:Honolulu, Hawaii,
The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor severely damaged the US Pacific
Fleet, destroying multiple battleships, airfields, and military
    infrastructure (Dec 7, 1941
    But
Dutch Harbor, Alaska, Japanese carrier aircraft heavily bombed this
strategic naval and military base, causing significant structural
damage (June 3u4, 1942). Attu and Kiska,

Alaska Japanese forces invaded and occupied these two Aleutian
Islands, causing severe infrastructure damage and forcing a prolonged
US and Canadian military campaign to retake them (June 1942uAugust
    1943).
Estevan Point, Canada: The Imperial Japanese Navy submarine I-26
shelled the Estevan Point Lighthouse on Vancouver Island, marking the
first time enemy fire hit North American shores.

Fort Stevens, Oregon Submarine I-25 shelled this US Army fort, though
the artillery fell short and caused no major structural damage.
Oregon Coast. The same submarine, I-25, launched incendiary bombs into
the forests of the Klamath Mountains near Mount Emily to start forest
    fires.

And the manpower provided by the USSR, eh?

They were starving till the Americans/Australia/NZ transported

Nobody denies that the war against the Axis forces was won by a joined >international effort. But denying that manpower matters at all and that >Russia supplied the bulk of boots on the ground against Hitler is

    *Birth of Electric Trains*
"The first electric train was built in 1837 by chemist Robert Davidson
in Scotland. The train was powered by a battery and could carry a small
number of passengers. This marked the beginning of the electric train era" >>>
    *First Electric Locomotive*
"Werner von Siemens demonstrated the first electric locomotive in Berlin >>> in 1879. This marked a significant advancement in electric train

    *Opening of First Electric Tramway*

Please try again when you are somewhat more sober and your hate filled
rage cooled off just a little bit!

Here, just a few pointers to the right direction:

It was Rod who brought into discussion the world electrification as some
sort of amazing US achievement proving its absolute superiority over
anyone else on the planet. I was only responding to his bullshit
assertions. In itself, that had fuck all to do with the World Wars.

I simply do not subscribe to any sort of US greatness, not in historical context nor in the 20th century nor now under the Orange Emperor's.

The US never was great, hence any sort of assertion about making it
great again I regard as an absolute oxymoron. Brutal military might does
not make any country great for its people, nor does out of control
    robber baron capitalism.

And as far as any human beings capable of cool headed rational thinking
are concerned no person nor country is superior to anyone else. We are
    all humans.
    That is the bottom line.

If Rod or you don't like it then please fuck off from this planet ASAP.

No its not. Even after the Pearl Harbour attack, the rest of 99.9% of US cities and infrastructures has remained fully untouched by the war. That

Wrong given that electrification and the

That is not what you have initially asserted. Your assertion was that US brought electrification to the World, which is semantically an entirely different concept. Just because a country produced some inventions based
on pre-dating scientific/technological technological knowledge from
somewhere else, that does not make it necessarily the only provider and
whole the distributor of that technology across the planet.
Certainly that was NOT the case with electricity: "https://www.sciencefocus.com/science/who-invented-electricty"

In any case, the similar is true for the Diesel engine too! <https://www.britannica.com/beography/Rudolf-Diesel>
Just because it was a German invention it did not make Germany "great"
    in any way!

Your so called desperate arguments trying to prove US superiority in all things under the sun, do not hold up too good, Alzheimer!

Just ask yourself that simple question: Did the invention of Wi-Fi make Australia in any tangible way noticeably "great" in the World?

We have a machinery field day every year in
Colyambally and almost all of the antique
machinery and cars and trucks are american,
something you don't see with cars anymore

That is Australia and NOT Europe! Next!

    rubbish

Care to locate Colyambally on the map of Europe for me?
If you can't, maybe it is high time for you to fuck off back to your
    GoonBag binge, Petz dear!

The connection of Australia in Europe was they were fighting Nazi's
the day before Britain was idiot.

Sorry!! WHAT?? Who were the Aussies fighting along side of if Britain
had yet to join the War, Petzl?? The French?? The Danes?? The Russians??

They were fighting with just themselves, Churchill wanted to keep
    Britsh casualties down.

Because of the international date line, Canberra, Australia, in WWII
was always the day befoe yhe time in UK.
But you knew that Daniel70 you are not stupid.

    Good idea!
Does it also mean that you are going to snip all the drivel you intended >>> to post to the newsgroup in the future?
Would be be really-really nice of you Petz dear!!
    :-P

And, talking of Snipping, why doesn't Petzl SNIP some/ALL of his 30'ish
line long Sig File?? I believe four/five lines is an acceptable length.

Just ignore all the nonsense Petz posts in his sigs, Daniel!
Basically, by now everyone does! I don't know why he has not noticed yet
how meaningless/utterly ignored that stupid habit of his become over time.

Apparently Petz has decided yonks ago to put a significant portion of
his alt-right propaganda dumps/GoonBag fumes induced delusions into his
sig. For some strange reason he has imagined this was a *great* idea
because this has saved him from the trouble of having to retype his ad
nauseam regurgitated non sequitur drivels in the main body of his posts
while providing him with additional impact on the unfortunate readers of
    his idiot posts.

Eventually, I took the very necessary measure (i.e. scrip file magic) to
stop his bloated nonsense sigs from displaying in my Usenet client.
Pffffft! What a relief! It has saved my sanity from additional Petz damage!

believe in what you want, |urd||g does.

Apparently in this newsgroup most posters prefer to believe in the *superiority* of their own deluded views of the world instead of
properly observing facts and reality, ain't that so, Petz dear (I am
    looking you)!

BTW, I am still waiting for you to name all those major US cities which allegedly (according to you and your off and on newsgroup boifriend,
Alzheimer Rod) were significantly damaged/destroyed by the Japs during
World War 2 similar to the very same degree severely impacted European
cities. Wouldn't be nice of you to post confirming links to immediate
after war images of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, News York,
Atlanta, Washington DC, Huston, etc demonstrating the totality of
    immense war damage!
    :-P :-P :-P

And while at it, please also try to enlighten the newsgroup how, when
and where your imaginary Australian troupes fought the Nazis on mainland Europe well before any of the rest of the other Allies have shown up.... Waiting ... waiting ... waiting ... crickets!

Do you even realise Petz dear, that Africa ain't Europe?

When London is on DST and WE aren't, there is eleven hours difference.
When London is not on DST and WE are, there is nine hours difference,

There is no difference between communism and socialism,

Just because some idiot invents/uses a manufactured ad hom phrase

Why do you expect rational people to deal with your hate tirades and the
rest of the ridiculous nonsense you keep pulling out of your own arse
nonsense seriously? Specially not, since you keep on ridiculing and
maligning anything others dare to post you outright hate/don't like for

Apparently this is the only place where people are still responding to

without daylight saving Canberra is +10Hrs ahead of UK

Yes, before either country had DST, east coast Australia was 10 >>>>>>>>> hours
ahead of London because London was at Greenwich Mean Time.

Yes ten hours and the day stamp before London

No, Petzl, London is *ALWAYS BEHIND* us, Petzl. Doesn't matter
    which of
US is on DST or NOT, London is *ALWAYS BEHIND* us, Petzl.

Knew you would go out of your way to be anal nitpicker you are!

"anal nitpicker"?? Is that a term you apply to ANYONE that dares to >>>>> try to teach you something, Petzl??

That's a label Rod Speed classified you as, I agree, suits you.
<https://groups.google.com/g/aus.politics/c/v62FR2TXj2k/m/jENYLcO9AQAJ> >>>> They did in fact spend considerable money on mine and wasted
it on my spelling and foreign languages, you anal nit picker.

"anal nitpicker"?? Is that a term you apply to ANYONE that dares to try
    to teach you something, Petzl??

If you click the link you will see it was Rod Speed that named you
    -a "anal nit picker"

Sure, Petzl, sure .... but it was YOU, Petzl, who posted it THIS TIME!!

Petz never seems to run out of his endless collection of absolutely
    pathetic excuses!
    ;-)

I mean you, Petzl, are the great 'Know it All", aren't you??

Try to state the truth, you don't, you try to ridicule and malign!

You, Petzl, and the TRUTH are seldom with-in the same Post-code!!

Those who mock others are dealing with their own inner unhappiness.

.... but WHY must you do it HERE, Petzl??

    No answer, Petzl??

But when nothing else helps, Petz always does the disappearing act
instead of continuing with his silly defence of the indefensible or by offering a fitting apology. Petz must love lazy solutions.
    What a surprise .... NOT!

    Hey Petz?
Are you confirming here that you dug through cyberspace just to find an
ad hom abusive phrase you liked to be deployed against your debating
    opponent in the newsgroup?
Is this some sort of admission on your part regarding your lack of
personal inventiveness on how to come up with something of your creation?

C'me on Petz, just don't be lazy and strain yourself a little. After all
from time to time you can still manufacture very striking nonsense about
    your newsgroup opponents!

For instance, pretending that you actually knew something/anything about caving clubs in OZ (or for that matter anywhere else on the planet)
including their legal status, function, leadership structures and
    personnel compositions.
How about your pathetic attempt at pretending to know anything about me outside cyberspace! LOL!

It did not take me long to prove that you were lying before!

Hey you did not even know that other caving clubs existed in NSW apart
from the two you somehow managed to name.
I have called your bluff before but instead of admitting that you have
lied you did a runner, eh Petz dear?

Here, I give you another chance to prove your extensive insider
knowledge on this subject and name at least three elected society
members currently serving on the Sydney Speleological Society's
committee also stating their office bearer status within the club. Also, something much easier to find on the web ... please try to name at least
three other caving clubs currently actively caving within NSW apart from
    SSS and SUSS.

Alternatively, you could just apologise for your outrageous lies and be
    done forever with this nonsense!

    :-P :-P :-P

Sorry!! NOW, Petzl, you "Can't see it was actually you" but back WHAT,
four posts, you, Petzl, DID type 'it was Rod Speed that named you "anal
    nit picker"'!!

So were YOU, Petzl, Lying just NOW or back THEN, Petzl??

Only knew that when Rod Speed stated it was not his post.
    Was someone pretending to be.
I chose to believe that, as well as you still being a anal nit picker

Our Australian commonwealth has survived numerous recessions, one
major depression, and two world wars.
Doubt if it will survive under a Albanese Labor Government.
