I got a new credit card a few days ago. Can't activate it from internet banking like before. I had to go into a branch and show ID. And now to
deal with real estate agent you have to verify identity. They are using
some shitty service that asks for photo of driver's licence but then it
says photo must be of original licence not a photocopy or screenshot.
Fokking useless AI they must be using. My passport is expired, so cannot
    try that instead.

And I have lost my birth certificate, don't have a current passport
and it appears that I don't have enough ID to get a new birth cert

StGeorge stupidly demanded ID to keep my account even tho
I had had it for more than 50 fucking years and proclaimed that
my medicare card wasn't good enough and that because of that
I could keep receiving money into the account but couldn't take

Jeeezuz! I WARNED you not to let your passport expire. Now you're in
for weeks of pain! Better start getting heaps of bills, old
passports, and anything related to ID.

Yes I still get paper bills for a few things instead of e-mail, so I can

I figured it out. T took photo of licence on sheet of white paper. AI
thinks that is photocopy. I had used same photo just a month ago for
probate application no worries. When I took photo of card lying on some
blue cloth instead, it passed it.

Yes, and are you in MyHealth, MyGov, etc. Old car regos, hospitals,
doctors. Lawyers and police? From Grok ..............

Hello, what documentation is required for a passport in Australia?
What can be done over a lost birth certificate?
For an Australian passport application, the key required documents
generally include proof of Australian citizenship, identity documents,
and passport photos. Requirements can vary slightly depending on
whether it's a first-time application, renewal, adult or child, and
whether you're applying in Australia or overseas. Always check the
official Australian Passport Office website (passports.gov.au) or
their application portal for your specific situation, as rules can
    update.
Main Documents Needed (Typically for Adults Applying in Australia)

Proof of Australian citizenship: A full original Australian birth
certificate (issued by your state/territory Registry of Births, Deaths
and Marriages u not an extract, commemorative version, or birth card).
If born overseas, an Australian citizenship certificate (and often
your foreign birth certificate or other evidence of gender/place of
    birth).
Identity documents: A combination showing your photo, signature, and
current address. Ideally: one from Category A (e.g., current
Australian driver licence), one from Category B (e.g., Medicare card),
and one from Category C for address if needed (e.g., utility bill =12
months old). Alternatives exist if you lack certain categories.
Passport photos: Two recent photos meeting strict guidelines (full
face, plain background, etc.). Name printed on the back of one.
Previous passport: If renewing (must be your most recent one, unless lost/stolen).
Proof of name/gender change (if applicable): Marriage certificate,
change of name deed poll, etc.
Guarantor: Someone who can verify your identity (specific rules
    apply).
Application form and fee: Completed online or on paper, plus payment.

Applications are often lodged via Australia Post or online where
eligible. Processing times and fees vary; urgent options exist.
For children, additional parental consent and documents are required.
Overseas applicants use specific forms and may need extra steps.
    Lost Birth Certificate
You cannot use a copy or commemorative certificate for a passport u
    you need the full original.
    What to do:

Apply for a replacement full birth certificate from the Registry of
Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM/RBDM) in the state or territory
where your birth was registered (not where you currently live).
This is straightforward: Apply online, by post, or in person with
    proof of your identity.
Examples: NSW, Victoria, Queensland, etc., each have their own portals
and fees (typically $30u$100+ depending on urgency and state).

Provide standard ID documents when applying for the replacement (e.g.,
    driver's licence, Medicare card, etc.).
Once you receive the new full birth certificate, use it for your
    passport application.

If your birth wasn't registered or you face other issues (e.g., born
overseas or Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander), contact the relevant
BDM or the Passport Office for alternatives like a citizenship
    certificate or special forms.
Recommendation: Start at passports.gov.au to use their document
checker or application portal. It will guide you precisely based on
your circumstances. Contact them directly or visit a Post Office
passport service for personalized advice. Have your details ready
(birth date, parents' names, etc.) to speed up replacement processes.

Better start getting heaps of bills, old
passports, and anything related to ID.

StGeorge wasn't interested in any of that
even with a now expired drivers license
given that I haven't bothered to get the
cataracts done and I likely won't bother
given that now that the license has been
expired for long enough so that I would
have to do a full license test done now
and given I am now 80, in NSW you have
to do a test every 2 years once you are 85

There must be some way to get a new Qld
birth certificate and for those who can't
get a birth certificate to get a passport

The times are changing; it's all about ID.

Only ING of the dozens of banks and FIs
have demanded current ID now and I told
ING to go and fuck themselves when they
started demanding where I was getting my
money from and I gave gad plenty of others
    for even longer than StG

I have always added new accounts when one
starts offering higher interest rates or are
stupid enough to pay you to open an account
    with them

I have also had a problem with another one
that somehow managed to close my account
without bothering to tell me which I discovered
when I did a search on closed accounts and that
one turned up. The buggers refused to release
the money because I couldn't provide ID that
they were happy with but I haven't bothered
to resolve that problem yet because I will never
spend my vast accumulated wealth before I
kark it. That's why I haven't bothered to do
the aged pension paperwork even tho I have
been entitled to a part pension for more than
15 years. Now that I no longer have to do a tax
return, I can't be arsed to keep telling centerlink
every few months about my assets and income

I had a similar problem when consolidating and then transferring all
funds from numerous banks to one other all into one account. The
on-file signature was stale and was not accepted,

I always do stuff like that online and if the app won't do
    it, use their web site

I did have a problem with getting my title deeds back
from the credit union I had the mortgage with but that
was because I had changed my signature completely.
I could still do the original scribble, but forgot that
I used to have an underline type thing underneath
but they were happy to accept that after they got
the backroom people to accept that

and so I had to go
thru all the rigmarole you are up against. I needed a new passport.
Of course you will land on your feet, but what a fugging hassle!!

    Yeah, its a real hassle
