Unfortunately it's still running everything on top of Android,
which could cause all sorts of issues and limitations.

Something more like a Raspberry Pi alternative would be installing PostmarketOS, and there are guides for setting up a home server
    with that:

    https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Using_a_phone_as_a_server https://blog.kedio.co/post/how-to-run-a-server-on-postmarketos/

The trouble is that most phones you find won't allow PostmarketOS
to be installed or won't be supported by it. Unless I was lucky
enough to have one of the supported models already, I'd still
prefer a RPi or other SBC instead to avoid the complications and
uncertainty of trying to run server software or a whole other OS on
    top of Android.

The article's userspace Linux OS approach also won't work forever
once Android updates are no longer available for the phone.
Eventually the GlibC in newer Linux OSs won't be built with support
for the older Android kernel. Distros using Musl libc (Alpine
Linux?) might work for longer though.
