US made Kia's are considered unreliable because the US made Theta II
engines fitted to them had metal debris in them which caused early
failures. The Australian market had the South Korean made engines which
    did not have that problem.

US made Kia's are crap because Americans made them IOW.

Wifes Hyundai IX35 awd has been nothing short of brilliant. One set of
brake rotors and 2 batteries in 14 years. I asked her if she wanted a

    My Getz too

    One set of brake rotors

Nothing like that with mine, just some problem with
the windscreen washer tank which I haven't bothered
to fix, I have a spare that I got for peanuts in case the
problem is fatal because its a bit of a bugger to get at

and 2 batteries in 14 years.

    3 in 20 for me

The original battery did have a problem which was
likely a poor internal joint. It would some times fail
to turn over the starter, no cranking at all but
leaving it for a few minutes, it started fine as usual

I asked her if she wanted a new car, and she simply said "Nope. why, nothing wrong with it"

Main lack for me is no cruise control

The thing with the Corolla and every other petrol Toyota is that they
are all hybrids so its difficult to do a direct comparison with what
used to be its main competitors, it also increases the price.
Several months ago when we were looking at new cars I was looking at a
K4, I was surprised that the dealer said that they weren't selling very
well and that he thought the styling was the reason.
I actually liked the look of them but for some odd reason he didn't seem
to want to sell us one.

Jesus Christ you have no idea :)

Toyota Corolla is not a "standard", and in fact the humble Corolla is
one of the crappiest cars Toyota makes. Nothing actually wrong with
it, other than the fact that it's always been on the agricultural
side and comes with virtually nothing.
The Hyundai I30 has been a direct competitor to the Corolla for years
along with the now defunct Kia Cerato which has been replaced by the
K4. Both of which are better cars for the money than the Toyota.

The thing with the Corolla and every other petrol Toyota is that they
are all hybrids so its difficult to do a direct comparison with what
used to be its main competitors, it also increases the price.
Several months ago when we were looking at new cars I was looking at a
K4, I was surprised that the dealer said that they weren't selling
very well and that he thought the styling was the reason.
I actually liked the look of them but for some odd reason he didn't
seem to want to sell us one.

They are today, but we're only talking about the last few years of that
being the case. Back before it was both the Kia Cerato and Hyundai I30
were better cars than the Corolla in every respect in my opinion.

Several months ago when we were looking at new cars I was looking at a

    Weird :)

It's interesting when you compare the two. Looking at the base models of
both the Corolla Accent and the K4 S, the Kia looks positively stylish
and very high end, whereas the Corolla looks like something that was
bought at K mart 20 years ago.

Who knows? Could have just had his arse reamed by the new car sales

the correct coolant for a particular vehicle :)

Since you mentioned coolant I was in Supercheap yesterday looking to buy some coolant for the Golf, its 10yrs old so I was going to do a full
flush and refill, the only stock they had of the correct type was premix
and it was going to cost me almost $150 for 10lts (need 8lts), the cost
of just doing basic servicing is nuts.
I'm looking for the concentrate which should be a lot cheaper.

Toyota coolant was ~$40 about 7 or so years back so 10 litres of premix
at Supercheap being $150 comes as no surprise to me.

My electrician son won't have any work ute other than a Hilux and same
with many of his tradie mates.
He bought a new Ranger in 2016, had it for a couple of years and
couldn't wait to be rid of it mostly due to hearing horror stories about
the early ones from his tradie mates, his needed a new gearbox (he
bought a manual because it was the only one available at the time) which
    Ford replaced FOC.
He has owned other brands of work utes including a Mazda a Nissan and VW Transporter van, he now owns 2 Hilux, one he only bought a couple of
weeks ago, his first one is a basic Workmate 2.4lt TD that has done more
than 400k km, the new to him one is a 2019 Dual cab 4WD auto which has
done over 200k km and it still drives like new.
Tradies don't care as much for bling and features, what they care about
is a vehicle that starts every time and gets the job done and takes
    abuse on a daily basis.
BTW they recently weighed the old Hilux and were shocked when it weighed
2.7 tonne with it canopy full of tools etc then on top of that it
normally tows an 8X5 tandem trailer full of solar batteries and panels
and it never misses a beat.
I can't remember how old your Ranger is but I suggest you check your serpentine belt tensioner, the one on my mates 2016 BT50 wore out and
caused the belt to come off which then wrapped itself around the
harmonic balancer destroying it and the crank seal, cost to repair
including getting it towed from Rye to Dandenong was around $2.5k so
worth checking, according to the mechanic that fixed it its a known problem.

Nope. That is still just your opinion Fraudster. Nothing tangible at all.

I'd opine felix proving your Super Grouse New Car Buying Plan was as

different makes have different reputations, deservedly or not, but
usually so. eg. Fords> bogans, Commodore> Hoons, Volvo> safety paranoid, Mercs/European> prestige, etc.,

Same here. I'm not much of a fan either, and for no reason other than
