A segment on insurance companies writing off perfectly repairable cars.
There was an interview with a panel beater who reckoned that one problem
was that repair parts were taking so long to get. He had a BMW that has
been waiting months for body parts, and also gave the example of a Tesla waiting, I think it was, 26 weeks for a back bumper.

The insurance companies have written policies that offered a similar car
while the owners car is being fixed, and the rental cost can exceed the
    repair cost.

My son knows the owner of his local panel beaters, he recently asked him
if he had much work and he said no stating that for the same reasons you mentioned a lot of cars are being written off simply because they can't
    get parts.
Not surprising when there are so many new makes and hundreds of new
models, if our Govt had a clue they would mandate that a good stock of
spare parts must be on the shelf before any new model can be sold.

All that would to is see the car manufacturers make an
obscene gesture in the general direction of this country
given that its such a microscopic part of the world market
