That sort if thing has been happening for decades mostly when a popular
model is discontinued, for example when Toyota dropped the V8 from the Landcruiser.
Back in the early 80's BIL bought a new 40 Series Landcruiser, not long
after he bought it the Govt changed the import taxes for that sort of
vehicle causing the price to almost double so he sold it when it was
18mths old and made a big profit.

Looks like I'm not the only person who thinks the Yaris Cross 2WD hybrid
is right sized and perfect for their needs.

Only one of the vehicles listed really fits that category, the 200
series Landcruiser. As would be obvious to anyone with a clue, all the
rest are seen as highly desireable vehicles to own. So much so that
people are willing to pay over the mark to get one *now* rather than
order one and wait for 6 - 12 months.

What the list does really show is the cars people really value. For
instance, I always figured the Yaris Cross was right sized for my needs,
and it was a hybrid so a bonus there. The problem I had was their
popularity, coupled with the availability of a 2WD model, which exceeded demand so I was faced with a minimum 6 month waiting list. I succumbed
to the allure of the Corolla Sedan because it was what I had previously
and it was right there on the showroom floor, available in a day or three.

When I bit the bullet and ordered a Yaris Cross, it took a mere month
because the local dealer found one in stock at another of its sites.
