The type used in current Toyota hybrids is so much better. For start,
there's no steel push belt to break and spray metal shavings all over
    the trans innards.

Be happy the trans in your ZS is *old school*, tried and true isn't such
a bad thing when you look at that interesting piece of devastation.

there were a few things that made it difficult to live with. primarily
the manual gearbox, lack of power, harsh ride (as you mention) and small
size. plus no towbar fitment possible, contrary to what I had been told.
none of which make it a lemon. the serial abuser is lying apu. btw, the current model is a vastly improved version.

pretty sure only the best/expensive ones would ride well. it's in the
nature of SUV's to have a firm suspension and large rims with skinny
tyres, which makes for a harsh ride. because of their boxy shape, those
are necessary to provide stability and good road handling. at least
    that's my understanding of it.

Only technical reason to have larger wheels is to accommodate larger
brakes, vehicles in general are getting bigger and heavier so they need
bigger brakes so most likely that's why some have bigger wheels.
Some people seem to like the look of bigger wheels, personally I think
    that they look stupid.

Anything with a *sports* designation is, by definition, a sporty
vehicle. That designation requires improved handling so out go the soft
ride shocks and in go the performance shocks. May even apply to the
springs as well. That generates a harsher ride all by itself. Throw in
lower profile sportier tyres and you have your hard riding Sports

Low profile tyres tend to give a firm ride, but that's the fault of the

    *not* a "SUV",

    I've never said it was

    Smart man :)

yes, I know I am, thank you!

Incidentally, I don't know who told you that SUVS have a harsh ride
as a matter of course, but they don't.

most do, including all I've ridden in

Some might, but that's the specific vehicle. Not the class of vehicle
itself. They're not made to ride harsh at all, and you should try
some decent ones instead of always looking in the bargain basement
    end of the market.

pretty sure only the best/expensive ones would ride well. it's in the
nature of SUV's to have a firm suspension and large rims with skinny

(skinny meaning low profile). they also have wider tyres. wide low
profile tyres make better handling, but also are harsher riding

I knew what you meant. >
tyres, which makes for a harsh ride. because of their boxy shape,
those are necessary to provide stability and good road handling. at
least that's my understanding of it.

You should also stop listening to your fucking idiot mental mate, as
he's as clueless as you are :)

SUVs do not typically have low profile tyres. Some of the more expensive ones do have the option of 20" wheels, god knows why.

So that they can be fitted with a lower profile tyre without disturbing
    the rolling radius.

    Depends on the people...

Yeah, whenever Darren contributes, and I use the term loosely, you have
to do a rigorous evaluation - truth or lie. Given his current ratio, I'd
say it would be very safe to err on the lie side.

Normally I would say assume it's a lie and have him prove it. Problem,
he never provides proof of anything except trivialities.

Not when the "discussion" is about ridiculous subjects like "census
forms" and all you're achieving is bringing every other fucking
    fruitcake into this little group.

If you're not getting enough attention there is nothing stopping you
from fucking off to some other group and playing dickhead there....
FFS, why don't you heed your own advice???
