Every time I see the VIC cops on the news, they seem to be driving BMWs,
I was following a QLD cop car yesterday, it was an MG.

VicPol would have used those tough old Commodores but GM no longer makes
them. Had to resort to BMWs, up here in NSW too. Also have a few Camrys
and Aurions up here as well.

LOL, the BMW's are Hwy Patrol so not what normal Police use.
These days the ordinary Police could be driving just about any make or
model although I've never seen then driving any Chinese cars, things
    must be desperate in Qld:-)

In WA, they settled on AWD +akoda after trying all sorts of things for a
    few years.

The BMW's are relegated to Highway Patrol use. For regular cop duty they
use anything, from Rangers to Kia Sorentos.

Don't know what they are using for highway patrol duties, haven't seen
one in ages, they're probably all down in Logan (it rhymes with bogan)
chasing feral teenagers in stolen cars. They used to have Stingers, but
AFAIK they got rid of them when Kia stopped building them.

Our local cops have a Landcruiser as there is a lot of off-roading
around here, they also have the inevitable ute with a plastic jail on
    the back.

I believe that they tested RAV4s for some sort of duty. I don't know
what the test involved, but apparently they managed to overheat the
battery and dropped into limp mode regularly.

If anyone can find a weakness in a vehicle its the Police, they abuse
the crap out of their vehicles.
Way back when I worked at Ford warranty we used to get claims for
failures especially brakes that only ever happened on Police cars.
Maybe that's a good thing, if they make a car that the cops can't break
then they will last forever in normal service:-)
