*beyond* the standard oil and filter change. They still have cooling
systems, hydraulic braking systems and more that require the
occasional top up or fluid change. Furthermore, there are *additional*
checks that need to be made, typically with a specific diagnostic
tool, that didn't exist in ICE only vehicles. Exclusive BEV checks
involve monitoring high voltage traction battery health, inspection of
high voltage cables and casings for damage, flushing battery specific
cooling fluids and running digital diagnostics.
All of that requires a new *toolset*.

There is now. If you aren't licensed to work on high voltage, you won't
be *legally* working on hybrids. The legal limit for unlicenced people
is 50V AC and 120V ripple free DC. The electrical licencing scheme can
and will be used to convictunqualified DIY individual working on BEVs
and Hybrids.

Currently, in *some* parts of Australia, legally qualified mechanics
with a standard Certificate III can *technically* service and repair
battery electric vehicles (BEVs) without specific high-voltage training, though workplace health and safety laws require employers to manage
risks. Therein lies the caveat! Specific licensing proposals for BEV
repairs are still under review and not universally mandated. That said, specific *electrical* licenses are required to work on equipment with
voltages over ~60 volts and DC 120 volts. Remember, BEVs and Hybrids
have DC Voltages up to 800 volts and AC Voltages between 400-800 volts.
If you damage equipment, burn the workshop down, or kill someone - and
you don't have appropriate training and/or certification, good luck
trying to get insurance to pay out. Most of the automotive service
centres around here now have sufficient suitably certified people to
work on BEVs and Hybrids.
