Hi,
this morning's radio news reported the twin N-S runways at Mascot were closed due to strong winds. Over 100 flights had been either delayed or canceled since only the single, shorter E-W runway was in use.
So I opened Flightradar 24 to see what was going on and yes it was true. The only planes shown taking off or landing were using the E-W runway and did so into the westery wind gusting at 50kph or so (according to the bom web site) .
Next thing I saw was one B737 leaving the runway just as another touched down on the opposite end.
By midday, the wind direction had changed to being a southerly, so no problem for takes offs over the bay and the twin runways reopened.
Fraid there are no alarming cross wind landings or planes emerging out of fog to be seen at Mascot. You'll have to go to utube to see such shenanigans.
..... Phil
