    ************************* CoPilot Answer *********************************

**Yes. The primary USENET newsgroups for discussing LLMs and modern AI
    are the longrCastanding

    comp.ai hierarchy
    comp.ai
    comp.ai.neural-nets

    ### Core USENET newsgroups relevant to LLM and AI discussion

These groups originate from the classic BigrCa8 hierarchy and remain the closest thing USENET has to a home for LLMrCarelated topics:

    - **comp.ai** - The main artificialrCaintelligence newsgroup. It covers *general AI theory, research,
and developments*, and is the broadest match for LLMrCarelated discussion.
    [Golang Docs](https://golangdocs.com/best-usenet-newsgroups-ai-enthusiasts)

    - **comp.ai.neural-nets** - Historically focused on neural networks; today it is the most structurally
aligned with *deep learning and modern model architectures*, making it the
    best thematic fit for LLMs.
    [Golang Docs](https://golangdocs.com/best-usenet-newsgroups-ai-enthusiasts)

    - **comp.ai.nat-lang** - Created after the 1987 Great Renaming for *naturalrCalanguage processing*;
historically used for NLP research and would be a natural place for LLMrCastyle topics.
    [datasciencesociety.net]

    - **comp.ai.philosophy** - Discussions of *ethics, societal impact, and philosophical implications* of AI.
LLM-safety and alignment topics would fit here.
    [Golang Docs](https://golangdocs.com/best-usenet-newsgroups-ai-enthusiasts)

    ### Additional groups with partial relevance

    - **sci.cognitive** rCo Interdisciplinary discussions on cognition and AI; LLM cognitiverCamodel analogies
    sometimes fit here.
    [Golang Docs](https://golangdocs.com/best-usenet-newsgroups-ai-enthusiasts)

    - **comp.lang.lisp / comp.org.lisp-users** rCo Historically important because early AI and symbolic systems
used Lisp; not LLMrCafocused but still active among AIrCaadjacent researchers.
    [datasciencesociety.net]

    ### Is there a *dedicated* LLMrCaspecific USENET group?

No. Based on available sources, **no new BigrCa8 or alt.* newsgroup has been created specifically for rCLLLMrCY,
rCLlarge language modelsrCY, rCLChatGPTrCY, rCLtransformersrCY, or similar terms**. The modern AI boom has not resulted
in new USENET group creation; discussions instead fall back into the classic *comp.ai* hierarchy.

This is consistent with the historical pattern:
    - AI discussions have existed on USENET since the early 1980s (e.g., *net.ai* raA *comp.ai*).
    - Subgroups were created for NLP, neural nets, and philosophy, but **no new groups have been added for contemporary
    deep-learning topics**.
    [datasciencesociety.net]

    ### Practical guidance

If you want to discuss LLMs on USENET today, the best posting targets are:

    1. **comp.ai.neural-nets** rCo Best technical match for transformer architectures.
    2. **comp.ai** rCo General AI discussion, including LLMs.
    3. **comp.ai.nat-lang** rCo If your topic is specifically NLP-oriented.
    4. **comp.ai.philosophy** rCo If discussing alignment, safety, or societal impact.

First question: what is "this server"?

And which language do you want to read?

    Paul already mentioned comp.ai.*

    I found on eternal-september also:
    free.it.ai.general
    free.it.dj.ai.piatti
But I do not speak Italian, so I don't read these two.

    On paganini.bofh.team I found:
    uw.ai.learning
Don't know what uw is and if this is really an ai group.

On news.gmane.io there are a lot of ai groups:
    gmane.comp.ai.*
    gwene.comp.ai.*

On news.grc.com there is a special ai group:
    grc.ai

Thanks for the replies. When I entered "ai" in the Subscribe box, it
returned a gazillion newsgroups with the letters "ai" in it so I posted
my inquiry and was not as many newsgroups, which was explained in detail
as Paul is always wont to.

    Much appreciated.

fwiw, I have used Chatgpt, Gemini and Grog with limited success, though
I haven't yet found a need for Claude Code. Newsgroups are my preferred
means of drilling down on subjects. My primary interests currently are collecting a large number of prompt examples to pull from when I want to
be specific without using a bunch of AND and OR clauses.

My PC (W11) has no semantic search, because it has no NPU,
so we use the stilted procedural language for an exact match
which is not semantic. Semantic search is basically how the
CoPilot query generated an answer, but it cheats by also
consulting the charter of the group (if available, not all
groups have a textual charter attached to them).

( https://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/gawk.htm version 3.1.6 , works fine for simple stuff, binary file has no DLL dependency )

Set the field separator to "." then check all fields for an exact match on "ai", then print out the line.
Doing inline "scripts" like this, requires a bit of escape character usage. My effort finds one
    extra group.
