• Can Cloudfare be shut off?

Very occasionally I would like to visit a Website that Cloudfare
blocks. Is there any way that this intrusive piece of crap can be
    totally shut off?

only by the website owner or a cloudflare fuckup, but then
a quarter of the worldwide internet industry goes down with it ;)

Also see J. P. Gilliver's thread 'Cloudflare blocking' in this group
    (and alt.comp.os.windows-10 and <deleted>).

And, as Schugo hints at, Cloudfare blocking things might well be a
Cloudfare fault. There have been several recently, some very widespread,
i.e. affecting many, many sites worldwide. Ridiculous.

Stop using a PC that looks like an attacker and use a proper web browser.

What is your recommendation for a browser on *Windows 7* ?

Chrome/Chromium stopped for Windows 7 like version 49 or so.
Firefox ESR 115? still works, but the support may have stopped recently
or is about to stop. And in any case, Firefox does not get a free pass
    at the House Of CloudFlare.

There was an MSEdge for Windows 7... for a while, but it basically
follows the same rule as Chrome, and that should be the case for
Brave Browser or SRWare Iron. They would all be numbered the same,
    and would stop at 49.

    *******

Installing Windows 10 would give you a different support platform
for browsers. A Chrome will likely run on there. I ran Windows 10
on a couple different E8400 Core2 Duo OK. When I tried to go from
21H2 to 22H2 for Windows 10, the GMA graphics on the Q45 chipset
"wasn't good enough", and my HD6450 video card worked to allow 22H2
to run on the machine (the last release for Windows 10).

Win10 has some instruction set requirements, but it's not quite
as bad as Windows 11. My AthlonXP likely cannot run Windows 10,
and I never tried that, to see. My AthlonXP is a 32 bit processor.

    *******

Other options include Linux and ChromeOS. You can install ChromeOS for PC
on a machine, as long as it has an iGPU. For example, my Optiplex 780
refurb with GMA graphics, the GMA would allow ChromeOS to install.
If on the other hand, I left the GT1030 that is plugged in this week
in there, the ChromeOS installer would "freeze when it smells NVidia".
If I unplug the card, the installer would work (on GMA). ChromeOS has a browser.

And for Linux, yadda yadda. 500 distros. Lots of singing and dancing.
Yes, you can run some things there, such as Chromium. And the
UserAgent on that would not be exactly the same as Chrome, so it
would likely be about as happy as Brave or SRWare Iron.

No, Firefox ESR 115 support has _not_ stopped recently.

There is little choice. Firefox is now the only mainstream browser still supporting Windows 7, as Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Vivaldi dropped the

I based my comment on Firefox, on the *projected* end of support.
If they keep extending it, great. But the pattern there, of releases,
that's way more releases than an ESR normally gets.

And the party for the browser stops, if web pages use "feature testing" to decide
whether they like the level of Javascript support. The whole purpose
of adding features to Javascript, is to ensure older browsers get (functionally) kicked to the curb. And an ESR version is supposed
to be feature-frozen and just for bug fixes, and they may not put
the latest Javascript stuff in it.

You only have to manually update it once in a while, no autoupdate.
The lastest version I use (147) uses much less RAM and is faster than 115 ESR. Also less problems with modern websites.

What is your recommendation for a browser on *Windows 7* ?

Chrome/Chromium stopped for Windows 7 like version 49 or so.

    109. Microsoft Edge uses the same numbers, and stopped supporting Win7 wih version 109. Opera is behind and stopped with version 95.

Firefox ESR 115? still works, but the support may have stopped recently

No, Firefox ESR 115 support has _not_ stopped recently.

    Firefox 115.31.0esr was released on December 9, 2025. [1].
Firefox 115.32.0esr will be released in January 2026. [2]
Firefox 115.33.0esr will be released in February 2026. [2].

They've planned to stop and put it off more than once, so that may be extended.

There is little choice. Firefox is now the only mainstream browser still supporting Windows 7, as Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Vivaldi dropped the platform long ago. [3]

    What about this: https://win32subsystem.live/supermium/
