• Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (was UFO) releases

We have touched on the recent rebranding of UFOs as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP).

'Aerial' (instead of Flying) makes sense because these phenomena are
rarely reported on the ground. Similarly, 'phenomena' (instead of
'objects') because most are nothing more than lights caught on cameras.

For SF fans who frequent this NG, here is the latest batch of releases,
from the U.S. Department of War.

[NOTE - the memo of the acronym change clearly never reached the web
designers. The URL still points to the old school 'UFO'. ]

I have now downloaded a handful of these reports. They are variously
attributed to 'FBI', 'Department of War' or 'NASA'. I have focused on
the NASA reports, as they would be transcripts or reports made by
professional pilots, and not some drunken hick from the middle of nowhere.

One of dossiers contains a French comprehensive report compiled by
COMETA. It gives facts and testimonies of two French military pilots and
    one French commercial pilot.

One amusing extract from a report made by a Mirage IV pilot (on March
1977) says that they observe a "very bright glow, at 3 o'clock", and
requests confirmation from the base controller.

"The radar controller (C), who did not have the corresponding radar
contact on his scope, gave a negative response and asked the pilots to
    check their oxygen."

I guess "Can you blow into this bag sir?" was not an option.

(The report explains that this is standard procedure, to make sure than
what the pilot and his copilot are seeing is not some hallucination
    triggered by oxygen deficiency.)
