Australian Survivor: Redemption, is the fourteenth season of Australian
Survivor and the twelfth to air on Network 10.
The season premiered on 23 February 2026 and is based on the
international reality competition franchise Survivor.
Off to a good start.
Except we have to endure David Genat as the new host.-a I only watched
the first few minutes, but it was obvious he was trying to duplicate
JLP's cadence and delivery in the opening voice-over, and he also wore
the same type of hat and shirt as JLP.-a The real test-a will be in how he handles the narration on challenges and how he runs the Tribal Council.
It will also be interesting to see if he show makes any reference to
JLP's departure.-a The other players were clearly surprised to see Genat (one said "What's up, Golden God?"), but nothing was said about Jonathan being gone.
It's just unfortunate that Survivor US and Survivor Oz are premiering
the same week.-a With three Oz episodes and an over-sized 3-hour US ep
this week, that's really a lot of Survivor...
I did watch the entire first episode, and I have to say Genat was not as
bad as I feared. He had clearly prepared himself and ended up doing a reasonably credible job. His commentary on the challenges was
straightforward and certainly not as detailed (or as funny, frankly) as
JLP would have done, but it was okay. He asked all the right questions
at TC, though I'm sure they were prepared in advance for him. He had a
few interactions with players acknowledging his status as a former
player (one calling him "GG" for Golden God), but he didn't try to hide
that he played on the same tribe as a couple of the returning players.
All in all, it was a serviceable job, certainly much better than Matt Chisholm's awkward stint on Survivor New Zealand several years back.
