• Savannah first applied for Survivor in 2012!

This is a motivational post from Savannah. She shows/reads an email she
sent a producer regarding her application. She applied three times
before getting on. I was under the impression she didn't apply until
    fall 2024.

She applied when she was 18? Were they even taking players that young
back then? I think the first Survivor player that young was probably
Will Wahl in Millenials v GenX, which was years later.

In the video she says she was either 17 or 18 when she first applied. I thought you had/have to be 18 to apply or can you apply at 17 as long as you'll be 18 by the time the game starts?

There's been other 18 year olds. There was a guy named Spencer Duhm on Survivor: Tocantins (S18?) who was 18. At the start of the series you
had to be 21 to apply and then at some point they lowered the age to 18.
I can't recall if they ever stated why they lowered the age. I doubt it
was because they needed a bigger pool of people to cast from.

You're right. I forgot about Spencer. He was actually 19 when they
filmed that season. Will Wahl was 18 when he did Millennials v Gen X,
which made him the youngest at that time. It's really hard to imagine
an 18-year old Savannah on the show. I wonder what she was like back then?

At one time in the US, you had to be 21 to sign a contract, but that got gradually lowered to 18 in most states by the time Survivor came on the
air in 2000. But it was still 21 in some states like Mississippi, so
maybe that's why they left it at 21 when the show first aired.

I found this article that explains why and when they lowered the age to 18:

Spencer was 18 when they shot Tocantins. CBS probably lists him as 19 as
that was the age he was when the season aired. I did some digging to
confirm his age. He was born on 12/20/1989 and S18's filming dates were 11/2/2008 to 12/10/2008. CBS seems to get ages wrong quite often.

So they did want to expand the casting pool! If it wasn't for that rule
change we probably never would have been blessed with Brandon Hantz.
IIRC, he was 19 when he first played. Without Natalie Tenerelli would
    Boston Rob have won S22?

That's a good question about Boston Rob. If he didn't have Natalie as a lapdog, I suppose he would just have had to find someone else. Maybe
that other girl - Ashley? - would have taken on Natalie's role. He also lucked out in getting Philip Sheppard as his other lapdog.
