• No preseason interviews for S51

Tweet from Mike Bloom from the other day.

As mentioned last week, there will be no preseason interviews for
#Survivor 51. So I'm gonna try to do my best Detective Dean and find out
    some things about these players

If you have any information about any of these castaways for our cast previews, let me know!

Did CBS not fly out any press preseason to hype S51? If true, very weird
move. Is the "Open Era" going to be the cutback era? Or is the cast so
bad that they want us knowing as little as possible about them before
    the premiere airs?

Honestly, the only thing that would seem to make sense here is they must
be going through some sort of budget cuts. Even if the cast were pretty
bad (and first indications are it's probably not great), they wouldn't
really know that until they had filmed some episodes - and even then
they would hype up preseason interviews to try to generate interest.

The ratings have been good the last five seasons or so, especially last season. You'd think they would increase the budget. Or is the merger and related legal costs costing Paramount way more than they were expecting?

As for the cast, all I've seen other than this clip is the two-minute
promo they showed at the end of S50. Next to nothing has shown in my X
feed which is really strange given the season starts to air in three
weeks. In the past, I would have come across tons of stuff about the
players. This season it's like no one knows anything about these people.

Fine by me. The only pre-season information about the players that I
require are names, ages, and professions. Nothing else! Getting to
know the cast with a tabla rasa in place is way more fun IMO.

Maybe this is all part of the "Open Era" approach with things being less predictable, less orchestrated, etc. - and that includes no more
structured interviews at the beginning of the season. As you say, it's
tabula rasa with fans having to sort of be prepared for anything with no advance clues. I kind of like it too.

Thanks for the spelling correction, Rick. My command of Latin is not
    what it once was.:-)
