• Could This Have Saved Star Trek: Enterprise?

Star Trek Enterprise had only really hit its stride and become a solid addition to the franchise by the third season of the show. The Zindi arc was well written and packed full of action, intrigue, and a compelling seasonl long story. But it was season 4 that made Enterprise the prequel it really should have been from the beginning. At last, we got stories that tied into longtime Trek cannon. Some brilliant episodes and fantastic writing. But for most fans, the highlight of that season was the two-part mirror universe episode, In a Mirror Darkly, where we see mirror universe versions of the
NX01 crew, and they encounter the USS Defiant from the original series episode, The Tholian Web. The ship was sent back in time and into the mirror universe, and we got a fun two-parter out of that show. Now, as fun as that two-parter was, it could have potentially been even better because William Shatner was originally supposed to appear in those two episodes playing Tiberius, the mirror universe version of Captain James T. Kirk.

Firing Berman and Braga years earlier? Possibly.

I could never get into Enterprise. One of the local broadcast channels
in my area has star trek every night starting with the TOS through, I
think, Enterprise. The episodes are broadcast in order.

I TRIED to enjoy Enterprise. Just couldn't get into it. Acting was
fine. The cast seemed to have a good chemistry. Maybe I was treked out
at the time. Or maybe a bit of bias.

Discovery was a fucking waste. I feel bad too, because most of the
actors did a good job with what they had. Picard, I couldn't get through
Season 1. It was soooooo lame. Though, I've heard the latest season was
really good to those who suffered through the previous seasons.

If I could get an original VHS set of TOS it would be great. When 'they'
added computer graphics to TOS for the modern era, it cheapened the show
to me. I prefer the original. I'm nostalgic for the imagination.

rCLRemasteredrCY TOS with its low end video game CGI replacement FX is a travesty. My Blu-ray set gives you the option of watching the crappy new version or the cleaned up live action with the original FX.

The mirror universe thread should've stayed where it started - in

I absolutely hate origins that turn alien characters into just normal
humans who got transformed from the silver surfer to the Daleks to the intolerant Galactose himself.

I find the mirror universe a great idea to give the audience a change,
broaden the possibilities for the writers and for the actors to show
that they can do different than their normal role.

Very little scifi i can enjoy anymore.

Isn it sad when you spoil the fun for yourself instead of just

The mirror universe was a great story as told in TOS.

Glad you like it, clearly you fall into their target demographic. I can't
    be more happy for you.

Very little scifi i can enjoy anymore.

Isn it sad when you spoil the fun for yourself instead of just
    enjoying?

    Not a good assumption.

The content must be enjoyable to be enjoyed. Most movies today
are resulting in a downward spiral in revenue. Most seem to be saved
by international ticket sales. A few decades ago, the market standard of success fell at domestic sales while international results were listed as footnotes. It is no longer the case. The cinema is quickly becoming a
thing of the past. This wouldn't be the case if the films were
enjoyable and covid can't be blamed for it all. Today, international
sales must be counted for the movie houses to count success.

To be fair, sci-fi has been replaced by many reboots of superhero
junk. How many times have we been given the same superman origin story?
I aged out of the superhero genre a long time ago but did watch the
first two Avengers movies. First one was good, second one wasn't.

I've watched many movies in the scifi genre with zero expectations -
almost all were easy to forget. In the modern era, many movies are made
for their previews it seems. The targeted demographics are the age group
least likely to view the content critically... The youth.

After about the age of seventeen or eighteen, I began viewing my scifi critically. I was no longer blankly watching for explosions and
listening for funny quips. If you ignore the bad stories and bad dialog
and crappy acting, then it's enjoyable.

There are films I enjoyed in my youth that are corny and unwatchable
today. Some of us hold high standards for films that demand a high
ticket price. I have better things to do than to spend good money on a
movie if I don't intend to enjoy it.
