• Notes for 37ABF10 (The Children's Book Job) and 37ABF04 repeat

Here's (air) season 38 and this episode feels odd, somewhat because it
gets very over the top (not that this is terribly unusual for the show
these days) but also because it is primarily a self-contained adventure
of a separate character we never saw before (and never will again) with
only a basic level of connection to regular characters. I didn't hate
it, I guess, and appreciated the aim at something different, but the
"host" show could be anything. The sequences modeled after other
    children's books were imaginative, though.

(Study activity: compare and contrast the goat book and its sequel's motivation to Eleanor's books in The Critic episode "A Pig-Boy and His
    Dog".)

    DYN:
...the suck/sudge joke is pretty risque for broadcast TV (because what
word is toned down as *f*udge)?
..."Prince Andrew" was looped over something else (as Homer's favorite
    British person)?
...it's "Pye in the Air" now, not "Sky"?

Previous episode comparison (the more things change...)
    8F18: Homer's obsession has changed in 34 years from a Game Boy-esque
bowling handheld to essentially the same timewaster in a phone game

    Goodbye, Dolly
The 8/30 repeat of episode 37ABF04 added a dedication to Dolly Parton,
who had died the previous week, with an image of her from AABF08. You've really got to be on your toes to catch all these!

I wondered if it all wasn't a reference to possibly something that had happened (minus the over the top bits) in real life that I had missed
    hearing about, i.e. a children's book author becoming a drunk and a
    public nuisance. ;)

LOL, I thought they were saying "SUCH!" Thanks for clarifying. ;)

    Same. I didn't like this episode. :(

Not a favorite of mine, but I didn't hate it. Even a bad Simpsons
episode is still better than episodes of all of the Simpsons knock-off
shows that FOX (and others) have continued airing for years now. ;)

One other thing about this one I thought was odd... Helen Lovejoy's fit
about the books. Yeah, she is the pastor's wife and is a
holier-than-thou type, but her fit seemed out of character.

Her fit also made me wonder why Ned Flanders didn't appear.
