That was rather moving. I liked this: "The point from which I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots and heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contended for, I will unite with you to honor their memory."
So can we not go around illegally tearing down statues and spray painting Federal Court Houses? Oh yes, I realize that BLM is not Antifa, but they appear to have similar goals even if they haven't yet figured out that they are natural enemies.

It's nice to know that he outlived slavery and lived to see the passage of A13 and A14.
There's a reading of the speech by James Earl Jones from Democracy Now (Which as you might imagine makes me uncomfortable.)

I think one of the best things about the US is that we recognize that we are imperfect and we try to improve, even if we might not always agree on what an improvement is.
There might be a reason why the Founders included a means of amending the COTUS.

At this point almost every bit of land on earth was once occupied by someone else and it was taken away. I don't think this can be undone. I must take things as I find them. But if you do think some remedy for this is in order, then what remedy shall there be?
I hope you have a very happy Fourth!
