I was re-viewing some old tapes I have lying around and one of them
included a couple of GH episodes from around 2007. Yes, I still have a
VCR/DVD combination player.

The main plot line was Laura finally waking up from her catatonic state
after four years. Doctor Robin Scorpio-Drake had used one of her very miraculous cures on Laura. Of course there was a delay in the drug
working, for dramatic effect.

Other plots were Lorenzo Alcazar and Sky Quartermaine having a baby,
Lorenzo deciding to include his son Diego in his business, and Alexis
dealing with cancer, which leads Ric to try and take baby Molly from
Alexis. Naturally, Jason stops Ric. Another was Sam leaving Alexis's
home because they'd had a falling out, apparently over Sam having a
sexual relationship with Ric. Carly of all people was trying to arrange
a reconciliation between Alexis and Sam.

I'd forgotten about a lot of this. That's a huge amount of drama ago.

It seemed like although the production was not quite as sophisticated as today, the plots were much more cohesive and grounded in reality. Or
maybe that's just nostalgia.

Thanks for sharing that! I don't think it's nostalgia--the plots
definitely were more cohesive, and even with license taken for purposes
of advancing the story, they were far more grounded in reality than they
are now (Casey the space alien and Mikkos Cassadine's world freezing
machine aside). JMO, but the problem with today's plotting is that it's
adapted for short attention spans. People were able to focus longer 20
years ago. I get mental whiplash watching episodes now. I don't think
scenes are longer than a couple of minutes, and they don't flow
cohesively, but jump from one disjointed thing to another.

I recall most of what you related above, but couldn't have said what
year any of it happened. The stuff about Alcazar has been lost to memory
tho because I had become really fed up with the mob story lines by that
time and had FFWDed through most of them.

I do recall Laura's catatonic state, and how for several weeks before
Robin cured her, they showed her from the back sitting in a chair
(presumably because it was a stand-in for GF) like they showed Lulu in a hospital bed with her face obscured by machine.

Around that same time, I recall Ric and Alexis getting hot and heavy in
her living room and Carly busting in without knocking to read Alexis the
riot act about something. Busting into people's houses without knocking
and reading them the riot act was a thing Carly did regularly back then.
She hasn't done that in awhile, but I wish she would. So funny.

Around the time Tristan Rogers passed away, I found a video on YouTube
of the episode where first met Robin, and got immersed in that all over
again.

I'm glad you kept those tapes and your VCR. Some things should never be
given up (says the person who can't bear to give up her 22 year old
car)! :)

So true! It used to be done a lot more back then. As if having a bone to
pick with someone gave Carly (or any character) license to burst in and
ignore social boundaries. It is useful in revealing secrets!>

That's a scene I do remember. If I recall correctly, Robin did not even
know that Anna was her mother and just called Anna "Luv.">
