I haven't seen him yet but I found the last one pretty wooden.

Why did they replace James just for a farewll episode? Ok, I get the story with
Cody, but geez, we didn't get any kind of on-screen farewll for Maxie or Spinelli who have been around for years and loved by many viewers.

He gave first day intimidated by Maura West vibes. Maybe I will warm up to
    him later.

If he is meant to have an affair with Ava, I am not seeing the heat yet.

The scene with James and Cody was odd. Almost pointless to moving the
    story along.

It could have just as easily been handled off screen. Someone, e.g.,
Felicia, could have been asked to rCLhow did James deal with finding out
about CassiusrCY. She could then have responded with the obvious answer.

All I could come up with was that maybe the actor portraying Cody needed
more screen time. I think some of them have a certain amount of screen
time guaranteed. Possibly this was all they could come up with.

I was sort of hoping Molly and Cody would go on their book tour and end up
in some new mystery not associated with the usual PC characters.

The last one was the original. Took me a long time to warm up to him,
but I finally did. Compared with this new one, his charisma and charm
    were through the roof.

Why did they replace James just for a farewll episode? Ok, I get the story with
Cody, but geez, we didn't get any kind of on-screen farewll for Maxie or Spinelli who have been around for years and loved by many viewers.

Agree. The little boy who plays James wasn't available due to an
accident on his bike, so I will give them a grudging pass for not
waiting for him to heal. But they shouldn't have created a situation
that required James to forgive Cody in the first place. Since they just couldn't help themselves tho, Felicia and Mac should have told the kid
about his fake dad off screen, or put him on a plane to Maxie and
Spinelli and let them tell him. All done off screen and not having
    involved Cody at all.

As for Maxie, maybe KS couldn't or didn't want to travel across the
country to film a farewell episode, so they get a pass on that as well.
    I guess. :(

But Spinelli? There's no reason he couldn't have returned to PC from
vacation to oversee packing up the house and telling people goodbye. Who decides to move their family to another country while on vacation
without going home to pack before they leave? To just shuffle off
long-time characters in such a cavalier way really stinks. I hope
they'll eventually recast Maxie and bring her back with Spinelli, but I probably shouldn't hold my breath.

He's awful! The only reason I can think they cast him, other than as a
favor to someone, is because they thought he resembles Luke. Not saying
that *I* think he resembles Luke, but maybe they do. IAC, ugh. He has
all the personality of a park bench. Ethan is supposed to be a sort of
loveable cad, but this guy doesn't have the acting skills to pull it
off. The article linked above says he's a Brit, and he definitely sounds
like one...trying and failing to fake an American accent. He'd probably
have better luck trying to fake an Aussie accent, so why didn't he?
Ethan grew up in Australia, has always had an Aussie accent, and now he doesn't. Totally jarring recast.

If he is meant to have an affair with Ava, I am not seeing the heat yet.

OMG, no. I can't imagine this guy having heat with anyone.

Ah, I didn't know that either. I agree with all of this.

I did know about Kristin Storms, but if they were willing to talk about Maxie moving away without showing her, they should have done the same with James.

I would have really liked to see a few Spinelli farewell scenes. Among others, with Jason / Stonecold, now that he is back.

That was speculation, but seems likely. I have read in the past that other actors were handed filler just like this in order to fulfill contractual obligations.

In the meantime, I just read (but not confirmed) that Nathan ParsonsrCO (original Ethan) wife just had a baby. Hard to say whether he is on
    paternity leave or just gone.

Also, debate going on in other media about nu EthanrCOs resemblance to Cody.

    Snip rest

Yes, instead of creating a problem they had to solve by bringing in a
temp for an actor who was no longer in the cast.

Agree. And under the heading of "And Another Thing," IMO it was really
tacky to get rid of an entire family of characters and make it about
Spinelli's new job, when really, it was about Maxie's portrayer wanting
a different career. Not saying the mess is KS's fault--she has a right
to decide what's best for herself--but it could have and should have
been dealt with in a way that was fair to the other actors and the
    viewers who love their characters.

That wouldn't surprise me at all, but if that's what happened here, it
was to the detriment of the show.

In the meantime, I just read (but not confirmed) that Nathan ParsonsA (original Ethan) wife just had a baby. Hard to say whether he is on
    paternity leave or just gone.

I was under the impression that he had signed on only for a short time.
If that's true and they've recast the part, it's probably because they
wanted to extend the Phoebe baby daddy story beyond NP's contracted
period. All just speculation on my part. I really have no idea!

Also, debate going on in other media about nu EthanAs resemblance to Cody.

OMG, he does not resemble Cody at all other than they're strawberry
blond men with scruffy facial hair. Not to go off on another rant about
the bad casting choice, but I'm hoping this guy doesn't last any longer
than the first Molly replacement after the original's run-in with the
law. Seems like there were two or three temporary Mollys before they
settled on the current one (who IMO is better than the original).
