• Dr Kristina Corinthos-Davis...maybe?...someday?

Kristina's departure to...ahaha...medical school is the longest, most
drawn out, protracted affair ever on GH. It's like they know medical
school is so out of character for the ditzy Kristina that they feel the
need to have her run around all week explaining to people how she really
really really means it this time and she swears she isn't going to take
it up and drop it five minutes later. So annoying.

In the amount of GH time it's taken her to explain herself and get on
the plane (which still hadn't happened as of close of business on
Friday), she could have finished medical school and been halfway thru
her residency at GH. Scotty Baldwin dropped a bag of groceries,
disappeared on the spot, and hasn't been seen since. Girl, take a cue!

My annoyance at all the time and attention being expended regarding
Kristina's departure is that the characters are reacting as if she is
going to Siberia or maybe on a four year long stint in Africa with the
Peace Corps. She's going to graduate school, for Pete's sake. More than
a million Americans do that every year. Most of them return home at
least a few times throughout the year for visits. And Kristina has the resources to visit any time she feels like it. But the citizens of Port Charles are behaving like they will not lay eyes on Kristina for years.
It's an absolutely nonsensical overreaction, I'd say.

And think of all the foreign students.

Emma is just as farcaway from her family, right?

Maxie and Spinelli raised Georgie on two different coasts.

Plenty of similar situations were survived.

So true! Alexis's reaction was the most over the top, IMO. She acted as
if Kristina were a fledgling just leaving the nest. The woman is well
over 30 for petessake, and it isn't like she hasn't been away before.
She did go away to college once. Sort of.

Now that you've brought it up...seems like when some characters leave PC
for an extended time away, the ones left behind carry on living as if
that person had fallen not only into a black hole, but into a black
memory hole as well. Never heard from, never spoken of. When Willow
brought up Dillon to Tracy last week, I think that was the first time
anyone had mentioned him in years.

I had a similar thought. Just how many years has it been since anyone
has so much as mentioned Dillon even in passing? It could be that Willow
was just bringing up a topic that could really hurt Tracy, but under the
usual rules mentioning a long-ignored character generally means that
character is about to appear on-screen. The actor who portrayed Dillon
is busy on another soap, but maybe Dillon will appear with a new actor
playing the part. That could be interesting. If I remember correctly,
Dillon left Port Charles to go to California to be a director or a
    producer or something like that.

Yes. The part has had several actors, and it's been so long since he was
last onscreen that I can't remember the last actor who played him. They
could bring him back with a new actor. Not that they will. I think
Willow only mentioned him to get up Tracy's nose.

Yes, he left a long time ago and has not returned, not for a holiday or
other short visit, not for Monica's memorial. It's as if he were
estranged from the family, but he wasn't when he last left town,
so...just another character sucked into the off-screen black hole, I
    guess.
