I just saw the scenes where Gio gets and plays the violin. So this is an instrument he has never played before. Even if it's not a new instrument,
it evidently hasn't been played by anyone in a while, based on the discussion about delivery.

And it's already tuned??? He walked around for a few moments carrying it, but he
never played a trial scale, or made a show of tuning it. He never even tightend
the bow! No one would store a bow in the case without loosening it. Having him out of sight while we hear a few random notes and scales or riffs would indicate
that he was tuning and trying the instrument, and make the whole thing so much more realistic. It could have been background noise to a conversation in the room where the family was, so it wouldn't have needed to "waste" even a second of air time.
