That was a great theory back when this storyline was playing out! At the time, Phillip's concerns about Belle not getting pregnant definitely made fans wonder if the show was hinting at a fertility struggle. It would have been an interesting route - especially since soaps often use medical drama to add layers to relationships.

As it turned out, the writers took things in a different (and very Days of Our Lives) direction. Instead of Phillip being sterile, the real twist came when Belle did eventually get pregnant - but the paternity became the big question. The classic soap love triangle between Phillip, Belle, and Shawn blew up when it was revealed that Shawn was actually the father of Claire, not Phillip. That led to years of custody battles, betrayals, and even a near-fatal shooting (because this was Salem, after all).

Phillip's storyline kept evolving too - his rivalry with Shawn deepened, he had his own romantic entanglements, and he even left town for a while before returning with new schemes. The show eventually gave him more layers, including business drama with Titan and complicated family dynamics with the Kiriakises and Bradys.

Looking back, your speculation about fertility issues would have been a more grounded conflict, but this is Days, where paternity secrets and revenge plots are all just what happens. It's wild to think how much story came out of that one question: "Why isn't Belle pregnant yet?"
