From internet perspective, a mere IP address only expose the location of the ISP. Never the actual location of the user.

The ISP can be one of ISP's branches instead of always be the HQ, if the ISP has branches. Which one is actually used, depends on the ISP and their
network condition.

But the ISP has logs and can trace back to the actual internet
connection. Even if you are out at a free wi-fi connection, the log may
also contain ID particulars about the device.

You are NEVER really anonymous on the internet. Anyone who thinks they
are anonymous is either a non-tech person or simply a deluded idiot.

I am using AT&T 5G and it puts me i Burbank California,
meaning my Roku channels that are not commercial free
have been drowning me in Left Wing political commercials.
Some of them are pretty nasty. We do not talk that way
here in Northern Nevada.

Depends on the provider. Modern equipment "leaks" location more
frequently and accurately than traditional dumb old routers. Especially
if one uses things like Alexa and has location enabled on their phones connected to home Wi-Fi. Another source is AirTag reporting via
bluetooth and ultimately Wi-Fi.

Consider this. Some ISP's are selling mobile services and using the
equipment they deploy to home consumers to provide Wi-Fi Calling / VOIP connectivity across the country. Some of those connection points have
location enabled for 911 purposes. The majority of customers have no
idea the ISP is running a publicly accessible access point on their
connection as the bandwidth use doesn't show up on their stats.

The biggest thing I see is if I search on something like 'Makita cordless drill' I'm directed to Home Depots in the Denver area and have to go

The other effect is my IP varies. I never checked but I sometimes get a

I have tried different sites that try to locate me. They show different places, but the most common is about 100 miles away.

Amazon has the exact coordinates of my deck; that's all that matters. It
