Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., on Wednesday introduced the bipartisan
Flock-Off Act to bar federal funds from paying for automated
license plate readers and biometric surveillance cameras.

The bill, HR 10221, was co-led by Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo.,
and referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government
Reform, which oversees federal spending and executive-branch
    operations.

Original co-sponsors include Reps. Ro Khanna, D-Calif.; Lauren
Boebert, R-Colo.; Paul Gosar, R-Ariz.; Chip Roy, R-Texas; and
    Victoria Spartz, R-Ind.

The measure would prohibit federal money from being used to
purchase, install, maintain, operate, or upgrade automated
license plate readers, or ALPRs, and biometric surveillance
cameras, including systems using facial recognition, voiceprints,
iris or retinal scans, fingerprints, and gait recognition.

Federal agencies would have to remove federally funded systems
within 180 days, and state and local governments would have
to stop operating covered systems as a condition of continued
    funding.

Recipients who violate the ban would see additional federal
funds withheld until repayment to the Treasury.

The bill carves out narrow exceptions for cameras within one mile
of the northern and southern borders used to detect illegal entry,
human trafficking and drug smuggling, and for ALPRs used solely
    for toll collection.

Massie said federal grants should not turn American communities
    "into a version of 1984,"

    . . .

Hmm ... in one of those super-hero movies, someone with
the evil org "Hydra" said that they'd convinced everyone
to trade "security" for freedom. The Plan was then to
    go full totalitarian.

Ben Franklin explicitly warned against trading freedom
    for the illusion of "security".

And it WILL be an "illusion".

I'll put up with a little more crime rather than being
ultra-detailed by the State and related. THAT much info
WILL corrupt govt. The Stasi dream. What - you didn't
go to McDonalds today as usual - now you're a SUSPECT,
"unusual behavior", your "red flag" rating goes up. The
"AI"s can watch everybody all the time now.

Seen in other news the past week, some govt entities
are getting rid of their "Flock" cams - just to replace
them with near-identical systems made by other corps.
P.R. move to the max, hiding the SAME evils.
