Food inflation continues to rise in Nigeria rCo pushing many people
to the point of desperation. DW reports on how the cost-of-living
crisis is forcing some people to choose between their health and
    their next meal.

As food prices soar in Nigeria, many low-income households are
turning to damaged and even moldy vegetables because they are
    far cheaper than fresh produce.

Traders in markets across Lagos and Abuja are openly selling
spoiled tomatoes, peppers and onions, despite warnings that
they can cause food poisoning, liver damage and other serious
    illnesses.

With millions of people unable to afford a healthy diet, many
Nigerians say they have little choice but to risk their health
to put food on the table.

    . . .

Nigeria, a large country, HAD kind of pushed itself
firmly up to 2nd-world status - not bad. Fair natural
resources and the city slickers are tech-savvy.

But a number of set-backs, economic and terrorist,
have put a big strain on things.

Nigeria is not directly involved in any major wars,
including the Iran thing. Al-Qaeda/ISIS linked
terrorists continue to do awful things in the north
of the country however. There has, allegedly, been
some USA help with those people, but it's not enough.

If you think yer McD hamburger costs too much, compare
with the current Nigerian situation. Yea, yea, election
year ... no comparisons allowed ... we're to think the
USA is the worst situation in the entire world.
