• Storm Edouard - Over 22 Inches of Rain in East Texas

This was not a big or strong storm, but once it came
ashore the forward speed diminished and it was still
close enough to the Gulf to keep sucking in moisture.

Rather broad areas north of Port Arthur got 18, and
even 22 inches of rain over the past day. Lots of
    flooding.

Only 'good' bit was that the area had been suffering
something of a drought. The soil should be able to
absorb quite a bit of water - but only over several
days, not 22 inches all at once.

At this hour the radar picture is finally beginning
to break up - but earlier on it still looked like very
    much like a tropical storm.

It SEEMS that extreme rain events are increasing of late.
Might just be better REPORTING though. Some will feel
compelled to scream "Global Warming !" but if you listen
to the reports they're like "the most rain SINCE 1929
or SINCE 1949 or SINCE 1899". Not many SUVs in 1899.

Oh, an entrenched pattern is also sending heavy storms
through the northeastern states day after day. Alas
little in the US or Canadian 'west' - the Colorado
river is now so low panic seems to be setting in.
