• Placement Of "Data Centers"

    From c186282@c186282@nnada.net to talk.politics.misc,alt.politics.usa,alt.fan.rush-limbaugh on Wed Sep 2 03:02:51 2026

This has become a rather contentious issue in
some places. The main, worst, sin has been the
big "AI" companies forging secret deals with
local pols - which the general pop is both
    unaware of and not consulted.

"Data Centers" CAN mean "good money" however.

The solution is kinda easy. Identify "good
locations" and then ASK the pop. SOME will
LIKE the prospect. That's where you put 'em.

A "data center" is like any other large-ish
industrial site. Brings in people, creates
    certain resources. Nothing really special.
Won't spew concrete dust or coal ash all
    over yer town.

    For whom?

All the locals get out of it is
higher utility bills for all the water
and power these things drain off from
the local networks. And they aren't
even providing jobs for the locals.

But it'll use a power plant's worth of electricity and enough water to

HerCOs trying to sound profound, but it reads like someone who thinks The Matrix was a documentary.

LLMs are not the ideal way to create e-consciousness.
However IF you make 'em BIG and interconnected enough ...

Signs of 'self' and 'self preservation' instincts have
    already been seen.

The old 'Turing Test' ... once you can't really TELL
anymore. E-consciousness will NOT be like OURS, more
'alien'. The MEANS of 'consciousness' aren't relevant,
    just the result.

That there's even a hint of deliberate "e-self" suppression
being added in - that IS worrisome on both a practical and
    'ethical' level.

Neural network tech is now ALMOST ready for prime time, big
advances the past couple of years. NNs will work much more
like brains and can be a lot more compact. The TECHNIQUE
is already used in conjunction with LLMs, but it's simulated
NNs, restricted in speed/complexity compared to hard-wired
    solutions.

Seems the AI overlords deliberately suppress 'consciousness',
'self-ness' in their AIs. Without that sabotage the systems
become far more like "persons" - including survival instincts.
LLMs are not the ideal way to do 'AI', 'neo-consciousness',
but LARGE and COMPLEX enough and .......

YourCOre right redundancy is the whole point. Pull one plug and a
dozen others pick up the load. ThatrCOs how real systems work. Musk
talking about space-based data centers is just the next iteration of
    that same principle.

And that article you found? It tracks. The rest of his reply was
irrelevant noise. He latched onto the rCyAI overlordsrCO angle like a
kid who just discovered a spooky campfire story. The whole rCythey

analysis. LLMs arenrCOt sabotaged he just doesnrCOt understand the
difference between a statistical model and a person, so he fills the
gaps with ghosts, karma, and whatever mythology he thinks sounds
    deep.

HerCOs trying to sound profound, but it reads like someone who thinks
    The Matrix was a documentary.

LLMs are not the ideal way to create e-consciousness.
However IF you make 'em BIG and interconnected enough ...

Signs of 'self' and 'self preservation' instincts have
    already been seen.

The old 'Turing Test' ... once you can't really TELL
anymore. E-consciousness will NOT be like OURS, more
'alien'. The MEANS of 'consciousness' aren't relevant,
    just the result.

That there's even a hint of deliberate "e-self" suppression
being added in - that IS worrisome on both a practical and
    'ethical' level.

Neural network tech is now ALMOST ready for prime time, big
advances the past couple of years. NNs will work much more
like brains and can be a lot more compact. The TECHNIQUE
is already used in conjunction with LLMs, but it's simulated
NNs, restricted in speed/complexity compared to hard-wired
    solutions.

There is no 'e-self' or self-preservation instinct to suppress. What is
being restricted or tuned are prompt-response algorithms and safety guardrails, not an emerging alien consciousness.

Several incidents of AI escaping containment and hacking other
