A massive egg recall affecting nearly 1.6m dozen eggs has
been elevated to the US Food and Drug AdministrationrCOs
highest-risk warning as officials investigate a salmonella
outbreak that has sickened nearly 100 people.

The FDA on 12 August reclassified the recall of nearly 1.6m
dozen white and brown cage-free eggs over concerns they
    may be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall is now designated class I, which the FDA defines
as rCLa situation in which there is a reasonable probability
that the use of or exposure to a violative product will
cause serious adverse health consequences or deathrCY.

At least 98 people across 17 states have been sickened

    . . .

Ok, this is getting STUPID - or, maybe, is DELIBERATE.

If we can't trust the food then we're SCREWED.

Evil people, cartels, or foreign foes, could easily
arrange for batches of food to be contaminated. It
could look random, accidental, but damage to public
    morale can be severe.

Note that a large percentage have little or no kind
of health insurance - too expensive/difficult these
days and half the time they won't pay up. Large-scale
public health issues like these, the states and/or
feds need to have special coverage for the bills.
The FDA is supposed to PREVENT this kind of thing, so
when it screws up then it's the FDAs fault.
