Peter Navarro says importers caught falsifying a product's
origin can face tariffs applied retroactively for roughly
a year
. . .
Well, we figured this would happen as the tariff
wars began, but it looks like it has added up to
rather a lot of money without much being DONE
about it.
Admittedly, trying to trace EVERY product, EVERY
package ... it'd require a huge federal agency
to get a grip on it by pure inspection. May be
that electronic methods, tracing banking records
and such, might be much easier and reasonably
effective. "Effective ENOUGH" might make such
tricks simply not worth trying.
