• General Motors Replaces 1000+ Workers With 50 Bots

GM replaces more than 1,000 workers with just 50 robots at
flagship Detroit factory as furious union blasts move:
    'We're disgusted'

    . . .

Alas the unions are one of the driving FACTORS in
    pushing such replacements.

Henry Ford had exactly the right bead on the unions.

Face it ... between unions and insurance and OSHA
and constant lawsuits, human workers have become
kind of unaffordable in the USA. "The supervisor
hurt my feelings in 1972 ! Gimme a million !!!".

So, fast as possible, the humans are OUT THE DOOR.

    Now it's possible.

Reviving US industries is a good idea ... but how
many US *people* will be employed there ? Within a
decade, even the plant supervisor will be an AI.
The factories will just be big windowless boxes
with naught but a loading dock - and robots will
load the raw materials onto the robot trucks and
robots will unload them into the factories. AI
accountants will manage all the billing.

Now all that's needed are bots that can repair/mod
    other bots.

Saw somewhere today, "Bloomberg" ?, that Oracle had
canned something like 26,000 humans the past year or
so - a lot more than the usual news mentioned - so
    AI/bots can do it all.

And what to do with all the obsoleted humans ? NOBODY
really has a plan for that which can be implemented.
"De-humanization tax" ? Nope ! The lobbyists will grease
the pols and it Won't Happen.

Henry Ford also considered who would be able to afford his new automobiles. It started with the workers.

Now that the workers are gone, what do they need to buy? and from who?

Good. Robots are more reliable, do better work, donrCOt have bad days,
donrCOt show up hungover on a Monday, don't bitch and moan about
management at the water cooler for half the day, don't need 3x smoking
breaks, don't strike, don't call in sick. They do exactly what theyrCOre programmed to do, perfectly, 24/7.

As a tech expert, the first issue that comes along can derail all of the alleged progress. If the remaining workers can't fix the robots quickly or perhaps even do the work themselves it all comes crashing down - sometimes permanently. I've seem this happen to several companies (total business failure due to allegedly unforseen technical issues) over my career. Even
a local fast food chain can fall to this issue.

Cars in particular are terrible examples of how to make a reliable product.
A minor fender bender can really hurt your day when you find out the local dealer or repair shop isn't interested in fixing it.
