. . .
All materials sourced and made In USA.
Not AS many people smoke these days, tobacco
anyhow, but the lighters still sell big and
there are many logos. Have a couple Flag ones,
still in boxes.
Main problem with 'lighters' ... most all kinds ...
they are not vapor-tight. Zippo fluid is better and
has less stink, but some vapor DOES escape. Seems
fitting some kind of soft gasket material is just
too expensive.
Had an all ALUMINUM Zippo knock-off long ago ...
Apollo-11 theme I think ... used alcohol in that.
A few WW-1 "trench lighters", oft made from old
shell casings, DID have a sort of gasket. Harder
to light in the wind, but Fritz wouldn't smell
you coming.
Alts are "the match" designs, screw down metal
"match" - you strike it against the side of the
thing. DO work and lose no fluid. Good 'survival'
item, I have a couple.
The ubiquitous "BIC" probably IS best ... though
un-refillable unless you have machine tools to
create a fill valve. Hard to replace the flints
also. Did have a re-fillable butane lighter with
electric-spark ignition - but it soon began
to leak. Annoying, it was kinda expensive. Still
have a refillable butane, but it's closer to
a TORCH. Still, good for after Cuba nukes the USA.
(hey, those old Soviet tac-nukes there were never
really accounted for ... "Little Havana" may STILL
go up in a big flash)
Note : Doesn't matter if you smoke anything, being
able to make FIRE has been hyper-important since
before people were people. You should ALWAYS carry
SOME means of lighting a fire. Even a Mini-BIC is
good enough.
