after gunshots were heard inside the Washington Hilton.

Followup :

Apparently the assassin was intercepted at the final
security checkpoint just outside the event hall -
and that's when the shooting started. The shooter
attempted to blaze his way through the checkpoint.

Reports - killer is apparently still alive and is
now being questioned. A USSS agent WAS shot in
the melee but was apparently largely protected
by his vest.

Trump, JD and cabinet members were immediately
evacuated. Most event attendees have been
kept in the hall for safety and more security
checks. There is a worry that a co-conspirator
may be in the crowd.

Trump reportedly WANTS to come back - but the USSS
may sit on him if necessary to prevent that. It is
also unclear if the event attendees will continue
the event.

Ah ... the prez of the correspondents assn just took
the stage and said they'd try to re-schedule.
