    Hi people.

I want to open this thread, about what Yin and Yang means to each.

Has anyzero (anyone) thought deeply about Yin and Yang? What does Yin
mean to you? What does Yang mean to you?

Consider this invite to deep thinking. Explaining by giving examples is
    fine.

    Cheers,

Being some body, or, rather, a mind, having a mind
among many of mines to think about Yin and Yang, perhaps
there could be depths of sorts.

In the shallow rises a mountain with yang and yin
moving across a side. Sun shines and yang is bright.
Shadow is yin. Those are maybe denotations.

Connotations suggest male and female among other
properties or adjectives ascribed to the terms,
    e.g. active/passive, stronger/weaker, and sew froth.

With the capital letters, a scene shifts. In the Chuang-tzu
mention is made of the Great Yang. And asking about it.

Searching for the passage, the Great Yin appeared.

    << begin quote from Watson's _Chuang-tzu_ >>

    https://terebess.hu/english/chuangtzu2.html#25

The foot treads a very small area of the ground,
but although the area is small, the foot must rely
upon the support of the untrod ground all around
before it can go forward in confidence.

The understanding of man is paltry,
but although it is paltry, it must rely upon all those things
that it does not understand before it can understand what is meant
by Heaven. To understand the Great Unity, to understand the Great Yin,
to understand the Great Eye, to understand the Great Equal-!ity,
to understand the Great Method, to understand the Great Trust,
to understand the Great Serenity - this is perfection.

With the Great Unity you may penetrate it; with the Great Yin,
unknot it; with the Great Eye, see it; with the Great Equality,
follow it; with the Great Method, embody it; with the Great Trust,
reach it; with the Great Serenity, hold it fast.

    << end of quote >>

    - two be continued ... Thanks! Cheers!

Long ago, here, mention was made of how any thing
can be yang or yin when compared with an other thing.
Actions might or may be included.

Taoist philosophy, aka Tao Chia (aka Daojia), leans,
imo, toward yin. The Great Mother, water, less and less.
Wu-wei may be a kind of a theme along with emptiness.

The TTC (Tao Te Ching, aka DDJ) mentions yang and yin,
iirc, once in the entirety of text which suggests
those particular terms weren't as huge then,
    when it was first penned.

Dualities, otoh, are noted in TTC 2.
Yin and yang, as a duality can be viewed
as being among various forms of, the Two.

There's a passage in TTC 28 that speaks to knowing
yang and keeping to yin, without using those terms.

    https://www.wussu.com/laotzu/laotzu28.html

A popular diagram includes yin and yang
and adds to the connotations found when
getting a round to it. Tao may be seen
    as including the fish/tear-drop icons.

Shade is mentioned at times in the Chuang-tzu.
A gnarly tree, good for nothing in usual ways
is able to provide shade and is held sacred.

Yin tends to having a meaning of good, for me.
Yang tends to point toward what is bad, often.

    - thanks! aye. Cheers!

    Penumbra said to Shadow,
"A little while ago you were looking down
and now you're looking up, a little while ago
your hair was bound up and now it's hanging loose,
a little while ago you were sitting and now you're standing up,
a little while ago you were walking and now you're still - why is this?"

Shadow said, "Quibble, quibble! Why bother asking about such things?
I do them but I don't know why. I'm the shell of the cicada,
the skin of the snake - something that seems to be but isn't.

But do you suppose I have to wait around for those things?
(And how much less so in the case of that which waits for nothing!)

But this Powerful Yang - why ask questions about it?"

    Beer isn't only for breakfast.

At first, my mug is totally empty.
Then, half of it is full of beer until
a shot of vodka is added to it which makes
what is called a beer, a veer.

After that, to say there is no telling
would be telling a tale that probably
    can-wag a shaggy dog beyond a point.

The wag begins at the tail of the tail.
It reminds me of the millipede in the tale

    Of interest to know One.

    Beer isn't only for breakfast.

Two veers is usually all it takes for me.
They may be an equivalent of four out the door.

An open door, whether it's yin or yang remains
uncertain given a frame of mind at this time.

At first, my mug is totally empty.

If emptiness is Wu, Nonbeing, and Yin
then fullness, Yu, may be Being, and Yang.

When the mug is full of beer, that's okay.
    Perhaps even great, given anticipation.

    Anticipation might be yang.
    Expectation. Perhaps even satisfaction.

As a paradigm, if Yang/Yin is all there is,
it could be akin to having one hammer
and a whole batch of nails.

A saying in the DDJ may say how from Dao
emerges Yi, the One, and it goes on and on.

Hence, if so, granted t'hat, Dao is not Yi.

Yet the diagram depicting yin and yang
may suggest a dao that includes them.

For me, Yang and Yin are words.
    When semantics are at play
    contexts tend to be
    rulers of sorts.

Zhuangzi said words usually having meanings.
And once those meanings have been transmitted,
the words can be set aside. Like a net to capture
    a butterfly, or a wabbit.

    - thanks again! Cheers!

Yin is life, Yang is resting, Death is beyond resting.

Yin tends to having a meaning of good, for me.
Yang tends to point toward what is bad, often.

I see. I feel the fragmentation in your heart.

    Yes. Like. Totally.

As being a being, being me of all 10k-things, wan-wu,
people in particular, as an individual, others,
    having bins, given names, occur.

Being born, like and unlike Zhuangzi
who, seeing as how all of life is One,
what need is there for words, words matter.

    At times, words matter.
    At times, knot sew mulch.

    https://terebess.hu/english/chuangtzu.html#2

<< begin quote from above >>

Now I am going to make a statement here.
I don't know whether it fits into the category
of other people's statements or not.
But whether it fits into their category
or whether it doesn't, it obviously fits
into some category. So in that respect it is
    no different from their statements.

However, let me try making my statement.

    There is a beginning.
There is a not yet beginning to be a beginning.
There is a not yet beginning to be a not yet beginning to be a beginning. There is being. There is nonbeing. There is a not yet beginning to be nonbeing. There is a not yet beginning to be a not yet beginning to be nonbeing. Suddenly there is nonbeing. But I do not know, when it comes to nonbeing, which is really being and which is nonbeing. Now I have just said something. But I don't know whether what I have said has really said something or whether it hasn't said something.
    ...
Heaven and earth were born at the same time I was,
and the ten thousand things are one with me.

We have already become one, so how can I say anything?
But I have just said that we are one, so how can I not be saying something? The one and what I said about it make two, and two and the original one
make three. If we go on this way, then even the cleverest mathematician
can't tell where we'll end, much less an ordinary man.
If by moving from nonbeing to being we get to three,
how far will we get if we move from being to being?
Better not to move, but to let things be!

    << end of quote >>

As an ego tripping, totally inflated, Yang
is able to connote being, the One, to a point.

    Mystical experiences vary.

For me, to be a macho man, not a wuss,
not a cry-baby, might well have a well
akin to the frog who encountered a sea
turtle if you know the story.

    https://terebess.hu/english/chuangtzu1.html#17

Froggy was, perhaps, inflated, until. ...
And then, beyond Caguama, was Jo, of an ocean.

Zz 17 is iconic, for me.

    Notions vary.

To be a dick, given an environment.
Times change and to respond remains.

Two, three and how many of me,
of selves there argh remains. Mystery.

To be compassionate. Lots of dimensions
    unfold when explored using consciousness
as a vehicle of a sort.

    If Yin is compassion
    then Yang may be dispassion.

For me, to be involved may be yang.
To be uninvolved, yin. To dispassionate,
then is more yin than yang and sowing words flow.

Perhaps you get Teh, aka De, drift.

    When a person sees Yin
and Yang as mutually exclusive things -- through antagonistic concepts, concepts that are non-mixing opposites of each other -- splitting the
mind into unrest is the leading path.

For me, personally, as a persona
    of who knows given epistemologies,
    cognitive dissonance is normal.

The me that is me is not me
when an other me asserts its elf.
Presuming you know what pronouns argh.

Hope you can find Yang the growing of Yin, or Yin the growing of Yang.

    Emotions cycle.
    Intellectual ceilings inhibit
what presents thems elves as Mystery.

Xuan, aka Hsuan, is a term in DDJ 1.

After all, each comes from the single Wu-Wei source; so Yin and Yang
cannot be so separate after all ;-) .

    Like. Totally. Agree.

    Peace,

    Namaste!

Never less than three for me. :)

Seems like Julian is contradicting a bit ;-) . It is okay, we are
    all
    playing here :-) .
I regard monism -- avoiding bifurcating -- too difficult for me, in
    the
environment were I live in. So, I see your possibility of avoidance to
bifurcate as a good sign, you probably are in a loving-environment, as
    far as I can tell.
Regarding never being less than three; three is indeed where the
    centre
can be found, which is a good improvement. Being fourth folding or
more, is what gave birth to knowledge the notion of /compassion/, of
existing things beyond the self-centre :-) . Which I admire too.
Now, Julian, could you settle your mind on which? :-))) Just kidding
    :-)

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by
little statesmen and philosophers and divines.

    True.

With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall.

    I do disagree.

Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what
to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing
    you said to-day.

Yeah, people do it all the time. I do it all the time. It may be a feature of having a mind.
