From Newsgroup: alt.paranormal
First off let me say that aliens grouped under
the paranormal is a tenuous match, at best,
but it was not I who matched them. So...
A subgenre in UFO folklore, a full-on trope
within the SciFi world, including Star Trek,
would be the concept of an species from
across the skies infiltrating an alien
culture.
And it's bullocks.
There are some 8 billion humans and with
precious few exceptions -- so few it would
amount to statically none -- you can't
pluck a person from one culture & drop them
in another, and expect them to pass as a
native.
Just look at race. How well an alien could
ever hope to integrate would largely be
dependent on not just which race this alien
choose to masquerade as but, WHERE they
set down and WHEN they pull off this
masquerade.
So the point is if you had to masquerade as
a different nationality, a different
ethnicity, walk as a native within a culture
you have never been exposed to, had no idea
what the social norms could be, what is
considered polite, what is considered rude
or even threatening... how to look at
someone... how far apart to stand... if you
had to enter an "Alien" culture HERE ON
EARTH, and pass yourself off as a local, as
one of them, how difficult would it be?
NOW, consider the fact that you're the exact
same species as everyone else on the planet,
which could never be the case with actual
aliens...
Aliens walking amongst us, passing themselves
off as "One of us" is not a realistic
proposition...
