I've always downloaded the .iso image but this no longer works for Update. https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade has the details and I'm
testing it out now.

Did the update
Reboot
It says it's using Wayland, although I could change that
(persistently, over a reboot)
My password no longer works (although the user account is correct)
I can't get to the machine (on my local network) using ping or ssh
After a few wrong-password attempts it is no longer accepting input.
Rebooting via the Reset button worked, but did not fix the "not
accepting input" problem. At least I could input my password as a
Username and confirm that the keyboard is working correctly.
I can't even close the machine down cleanly.
I am not particularly happy with the way this has gone, luckily it's
my test/backup machine. Going on holiday tomorrow so I have time for inspiration to strike.

Many things have changed and the migration tool is what is being
recommended AFAIK, likewise repo naming changes etc...
<https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade_to_Leap_16.0> <https://github.com/openSUSE/opensuse-migration-tool>
I used the migration tool, not one of the other methods suggested.
What I do not understand is why my normal login did not work, and it's
not a qwerty/qwertz problem.

Maybe try a text console?
Both as user and as root.

Leep 16.0 seems to be set up to prevent that, I tried all the virtual consoles and nothing doing.users@lists.opensuse.org
Now I'm trying the Rescue System boot.
I'm in but am not sure what to do next, it's been many years since I've needed a rescue system.
I'm going on holiday tomorrow so anything which does not get sorted this evening is going to have to wait over a week.

Sorry, I can't help. I am delaying installation of any 16.0 till I see
how it goes for people. One day I will install a virtual machine. I may
try an upgrade of a clone of a previous virtual machine.
I would suggest you ask at the openSUSE mail list
users@lists.opensuse.org or at the install webforum
Maybe selinux is involved, but you can not disable/remove it unless you login.
One day I'll have another go, but it is unlikely to be soon.

I don't like 16.0. I haven't done any upgrade yet. I read on the mail
list and try to learn from what people are saying. I hope 16.1 gets better.

I have an older machine with a Ryzen 3 3200G and use it to testUse the upstream migration tool as the developers are fixing things...
things like this, it also serves as a backup device for selected
directories under /home from my main machine.
The only thing I *really* don't like about 16.0 is that it's
unuseable on that system, any further comments will have to wait
until I get it going. The config on that system is a bit arcane so
maybe I should list the non-standard stuff (including the
partitioning) and do an actual installation there, possibly after
having made another attempt to apply the update. On the other hand,
insanity is repeating the same steps while expecting a different
outcome.
