Anyone know why slackware.com has suddenly become
e9788.dscx.akamaiedge.net and
ping that gets a reply from a2-22-249-16.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com
ping -c1 www.slackware.com now returns an error(1), whereas ping -c2 www.slackware.com returns OK (0).
Sorry for the noise.
It seems that the problem I'm having with ping -c1 stems from an update
to ping in slackware current (Jun 2):
-rws--x--x 1 root root 161K Jun 2 19:52 /bin/ping
which returns too quickly with -c1, doesn't wait for a reply, viz:
# ping -c1 www.slackware.com
PING e9788.dscx.akamaiedge.net (2.22.249.16) 56(84) bytes of data.
--- e9788.dscx.akamaiedge.net ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 0ms
whereas -c2 works ok:
# ping -c2 www.slackware.com
PING e9788.dscx.akamaiedge.net (2.22.249.16) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from a2-22-249-16.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com

(2.22.249.16): icmp_seq=2 ttl=51 time=53.9 ms
--- e9788.dscx.akamaiedge.net ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 1120ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 53.863/157.184/260.505/103.321 ms
On LMDE6, Slackware 15, Raspberry Pi OS, -c1 returns properly.
I was using ping -c1 www.slackware.com >/dev/null to check for internet connectivity. ping -c1 <anything> returns an error on slackware current.
Sorry again.
