• Closing panel tabs

    22.3 Cinnamon 6.6.9

    Just a bit of musing.

With browsers, it is possible to close tabs by clicking the "x" on the
tab. Is there any reason why a similar method couldn't be developed with
    tabs on the panel?

the ergonomie of the panel is normal ! is a C software...good exp|-rience
    user / interface !

but, sometimes, is a good action to move a new windows of the panel, to
see all windows opened ! is the bad, a tiny BUG of the panel...they are superposition of the panel's windows ! not the tab, but the windows !

a exemple, i would like create a new icon, a new starter for software...
    :(

When I right-click on an item in the Taskbar that represents an open
window, the menu shows options including rCLCloserCY. Is that what you
    mean?

    This is with KDE Plasma.

You can middle-click on a panel icon to close it - even easier than
having to click a specific part of it. That's configurable, so it may
be that it's not set by default (right-click the icon for a window on
the panel, go to Applet preferences > Configure, and enable "Middle
click to close window"). Firefox and SeaMonkey browsers also close tabs
by middle-clicking, which I use more than the "x" icon.

Personally I'd find an "x" on each panel icon more of a nuisance than a
help, so if it were to be added I'd want it to be optional. Even in web browsers I sometimes accidentally click the "x" when intending to switch
to a tab, but at least there it's usually easy to reopen the tab just
    closed (e.g. just hit Ctrl+Shift+T).

No. I can do that with Cinnamon too. It takes four movements - scroll
up, right click, scroll down, click on "close". If an "x" was on the
tab, it would take only two - scroll up, click on the "x".

Only takes two clicks for me. For Thunderbird I right click it in the panel, then click
    close. Two clicks.

Unfortunately, I'm using a laptop with a trackpad - not a mouse. There
is no option in Applet preferences Configure to enable "Middle> click to
close window". Even in "Mouse and touchpad", "Emulate middle click by
clicking both left and right buttons" is only available for a mouse, not
    the touchpad.

I'd be happy for it to be optional.

I think you can even remove the 'x' on tabs in css, but that would mean you're good with
    any shortcuts.
