• [OT] HTML IDE/Editor

    From pinnerite@pinnerite@gmail.com to alt.os.linux.mint on Sat Jun 20 20:31:46 2026
    From Newsgroup: alt.os.linux.mint

It has been many years since I was building my firm's website and
haven't touched it since around 2000.

I now have to do some serious changes as I have retired.

When I built it I used an IDE on Windows and later modified it in
another in Linux. The trouble is I cannot remember their names nor find
anythig on the internet. Probably poor search strings.

I cannot handle it now in a text editor so I need an IDE.

    Any suggestions?
    TIA

My favourite text editor is VS Code, but some people may not want to use
it because it's a free Microsoft product. Other options include
Notepad++ and SeaMonkey Composer. Alternatively, you can read this article:

    https://websitesetup.org/best-ide-software/.

These days, you need to know something about HTML/CSS before you can use
any tools. Things have changed. Have you tried ChatGPT or Grok?

I used to run Komposer back when. Now I've got it down to just a few .js files and I
edit all of my site with a simple good text editor, xed in Linux now, notepad++ in windows.

I looked at Komposer maybe a year ago and didn't like what's there.
Bluefin used to be good too but I couldn't get what I wanted. Maybe I'm just getting too
old for this s**t. I think Firefox even had an editor once, may be wrong.

You could avoid HTML completely with a static site generator like

I actually started with a Windows IDE on which I think Komposer was modelled. They certainly looked very similar.

I just want to make changes to my website as I am no longer in business.
I tried using an editor but I can no longer read HTML as my native language. :) That is why an IDE is essential.

I had been struggling to find something that was easy to pick up.
Eventually I found Bluefish. That seems to do the job.
    Shame about komposer.

    Thanks for your advice everyone.

Did you try opening the html file in Microsoft Word or Libre Office Writer?

For simple edits these packages will do the work for you as long as you
save as html file after doing the edits.
